I love everything about this coin! The collector in me has always loved a Piedfort, something about a ‘chunk’ of a coin... I love Sovereigns, so it was a dream come true in 2017 when The Royal Mint married my two loves together and this baby was born.

The design is insanely good and I’m not a ‘modern’ Sovereign kind of guy, if you know what I mean?

If you are considering selling what you have already collected to reinvest in a modern Sovereign, then a nice condition 2017 200th Anniversary year date is a sound investment. 

If you think about it objectively, a 2017 Proof Sovereign is going to cost you around £700, a 2017 SOTD Sovereign more.

The Piedfort is the same classic and beautiful design, it’s double the weight of the Sovereign  and only a 3,750 mintage as opposed to the 13,500 Proofs produced and the premium you are paying for this Piedfort is infinitely less than for the Sovereign.
