Import fees

I have seen a nice 10oz silver tombstone on eBay for £200 (I am UK based). However eBay states $71 import charges from the US. This seems excessive. Are there any schemes where this can be reduced? Do the same charges apply when importing from Canada? I am sure when I was in my teens I purchased a silver bar from Canada without paying import charges (innocently).

I have done a little research but I would prefer actual experience in this from a forum member.

Be careful on who it ships from too,Like dhl etc as they add their own made up fees too.

I prefer to buy bars now which seem to be far more popular, with more variety, in the US. This is especially true of the 10oz'ers. Import charges are going to kill it from a practicality point of view though.

@onlyroadtoheaven  you will get hit with VAT 20% and import fees.

If you live in EU , better buy from EU. Who wants to pay all this extra VAT & import taxes 😫

They pop up from time to time they do seem to carry a hefty premium but a stunning bar I'm on the hunt for a 5 and 10 to match my kilo

Hey all. 

I have no experience with this, however my understanding is that precious metals like gold and silver are exempt from taxes. Not sure if that apply for importing these!? 😕

it may well end up being more when they demand the fees  as from past experience its the tax plus the shipping companies profiteering on top lol.

Is it worth say an extra £50 £100 etc etc or would it be cheaper and less hassle from elsewhere?

Ah, not worth the risk to me then. I will keep stacking boring Britannia bars from the UK.
