A good friends birthday is coming up so I bought him his first gold coin. It’s small but it’s a start. He’s mentioned getting gram size gold before.

Definitely a good coin to start with, could start the bug

So here’s a question. What do you think this would sell for on the TSF forum. I am in 2 minds. Sell here or just send back to the Royal Mint whilst I can.

I am not sure I am too keen on the Tudor set, it’s just too much like the original QB series, just not as good.

Thoughts?

I would send it back.  Recently these types of proofs have been losing value and you may not be able to make your money back. Hope that helps.

Just a quick question re. the JFK Half-Dollar silver content between the 1964 & 1967?  They certainly look a bit different.  Anyone?

After 1964 they went to 40% silver rather than the 90% I’m not sure what year they stopped.

Also lovely $2 note you’ve got there.

Ten of my favourites from my collection 👍

What a lovely and varied selection. Also a delight to see many of them as ‘raw coins’ rather than in plastic slabs!!

Although graded the 1817 Sovereign caught my eye. Is this a proof coin? The photos appear to show frosted devices and mirrored fields.

Either way congratulations on owning such a well preserved piece of history!

Thank you.

I think the lighting I used to take the photo flatters the 1817 Sovereign somewhat- but it is just lighting, the photographs weren’t filtered or photoshopped- the photos below are perhaps more representative.
It was designated MS62 by NGC- lovely eye appeal 👍.  I Have recently had the Sovereign re- slabbed as the old slab was scuffed.

That’s very nice @richatthecroft and in remarkable condition for it’s 205 years of age.

It makes you wonder where it’s been all these years.

I haven’t looked but I presume MS62 puts in the top few graded?

Thanks.  Yes, it’s in lovely condition for its age.  Likely been preserved in a collection for quite a number of years.
There are quite a lot in higher grades, imagine how appealing a MS65 would be.

In 2017 the South African Mint celebrated the 50th anniversary of the popular gold Krugerrand.  On this occasion they released their first ever silver Krugerrands (all privy marked and only in proof and premium uncirculated versions), and also a one-time only release of a proof platinum Krugerrand.  With a mintage of only 2,017 I am very lucky to own one of these beauties.

Great coin! I'd be surprised if anyone else on TSF has one. Well done.

Thought my pics might complement yours. 🤑

Not sure where to show this topic/ photos. It maybe of interest to a guinea collector. Anyway its gold!

Just been to the Bank of England Museum to try and steal a 400oz gold bar, but failed miserably. I am hoping to find scrapings under my fingernails though!

A new exhibition has just opened regarding the link between the Bank of England and Slavery. It all seemed a bit politically distasteful to me. Apparently, 2 governors of the time have had their busts and paintings removed (probably thrown them in the Thames like the Bristol statues!)  An enquiry is ongoing to find out any tangible links with slavery money..... Mention is also made about the  BLM campaign.

One item of interest was guinea gold - see photo.

I left soon after, in case the thought police were monitoring me.......!

glad to see they are blaming the english and not the rest of us! 😛

It is a tiresome trend at the moment that absolutely everything has to be apologised for, re interpreted with various topics shoehorned into every story.

( always prefered a topic to a marathon :) )
