South African Mint - Big 5

Hi

I have just inested in the big five - three coins. I havent seen anybody trading them here and just wondered if it was a wise thing to do? The coins are stunning and have a low mintage.

Depends why you bought them. If you like the look, then the investment side isn't that big of a deal especially if you're keeping for a long time. But if it's for investment purposes, silver premiums are stupid high right now that it doesn't make sense to buy.

Thank you that makes sense. Its hard been new, its easy to be eager and make decisions based upon excitement

Trust me, I know. I bought a single 1oz Britannia for way too much so I could have something in my hands, otherwise would've bought tubes of coins at high premium.

@GavinDevon is (actually was) selling Elephant from Big Five series in Buy & Sell section. It went rather quickly.

I have seen them come and go in the Buy & Sell forum, paid little attention.

Saw a few closeup pictures today and now I want them all!!! This is gonna cost me so much.

I was exactly the same, I paid way over the odds. But I couldnt miss out. They are stunning. I saw an elephant trade here a few days ago and it got snapped up immediately

I bought the Elephant off @GavinDevon I've got 2 elephants, a lion and a rhino,

I suspect we won't get another coin until next year with the way South Africa has shut down the economy, it's already taken them long enough to release the first 3 coins

The mintage and the quality is very nice on these. i can see the appeal.

generally the 1st in the series become more valuable and harder to get hold of so they will become rarer in the forum

That is so true. I almost had to jump through so many hoops to get the marvel spiderman at a reasonable price

They are very nice. Looking forward to the leopard as I expect that will be a stunner if they get it right, though I expect the original release of August may get put back a bit due to the current circumstances.

I also bought a couple of the elephant and lion and flipped them and those coins were my smoothest flip so far. Only regret is that I did not buy more :-)

It's intended like that. If you put two coins side by side then you can imagine a whole elephant face (puzzle coins). Proof silver coin comes as a double set of coins.

The coins will be launched biannually with a new animal every six months.  (direct from the SA Mint) -

so, as we have had the Rhino earlier this year -

should be due anytime SOON!😉👍
