Sorry I meant customs import charges, not insurance. Last time I brought something into the UK from outside europe (was the USA). I paid less than £100 for item and £40+ for the customs charges?? And no way to challenge it at all, accept it or your package gets destroyed it would seem.

no there is no import charges then :) its from outside eu only, and until december this year you will not pay any charges importing from eu

Thanks Paolo, your right regards the EU.

Sorry my comment  was in reference to comment by @drakesterling who appears to be based in Sydney, Australia. If you had gold or silver coming in from Australia, unless coming as a gift with no value attached you would get a very nasty bill from UK Customs.
