Deletion of completed sales.

Recommended Posts

Hi Chris,

Would it be possible to delete completed sales threads within an hour or so of them completing as the UK sales thread in particular is very busy. Your item can be on page 2 within a couple of hours on some days. If completed sales threads were deleted ASAP your item may stay on page 1 for at least a day.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

I think it is good to keep the completed listings, they are a good reference. Once a trade listing is completed then generally there likely won’t be any posts in that topic so they won’t be bumped.

However, I can see that it may be useful to view the trade section without completed listings. So we could look into the possibility of having a toggle button or option to show between “show completed” and “hide completed” listings. This is something we could explore for later development.

Re a reference Chris I'm not so sure, a lot of people including myself edit price out once sold.

Still, even the content itself is very good for our search engine ranking and provides traffic. I do not wish to delete completed listings.

I think it would be quite helpful to either have an active and completed folder, or a button to filter out completed sales.

Regarding price editing, it does make sense to me that sellers have the choice to edit out the price if they choose, but I won't do it with any of my sales, and would encourage others to leave it there.  Think of how useful an archive like this can be for new collectors or stackers.  If years of sales data are available, thinking of myself when I first started out, I would have loved to be able to see a history of prices changing over time, seeing good deals, bad deal etc.  It would be a valuable learning tool, and an asset to the forum.

i find it very useful that completed sales are kept in the sales thread. i wish everyone put a sale as completed as soon as it has been completed.

If sales as put to completed it is very easy to scan down to see what is and isn't still for sale.

i also find prices remaining on the listings useful. You then get an idea what stuff has sold for in the past - just as a reference. It pisses me off a bit when i dig out a previous listing only to find the price has been edited out. The item when it was for sale had the price displayed - i don't think it is a big deal to leave the price in.

If that is considered fair fair enough I personally have no issue with that but out of interest, why is it deleted, what's the point.

I'm not aware of the reasons why somebody would want to delete the prices, maybe in case the other half gets hold of the thread!! but just believe it should be their choice.

I don't like the sale/asking prices being edited out after completion.

I'm not sure whether we can stop that but maybe we could bring in something that the prices would be reposted if requested by a member.

If a sales thread should be kept as a reference, which I am favour of, it follows it should be kept intact with the prices.

Certain general  edit capabilities are currently not allowed as per forum rules. There is no reason why the ability to remove sales prices should not join them, IMO.
