Don't often get over this side of the forum  , but found this

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3054311/Tiny-Scottish-village-called-Towie-bracing-gold-rush-scientists-uncover-major-deposit-precious-metal.html

Now, it is the Mail online so the story could be recycled from last year for all I know, but for anyone living in the area it might be worth visiting the nearest stream before it gets fenced off, although

they haven't actually found anything so far.

Don't tell the SNP, they'll be telling their gullible supporters, that they can use the gold to be one of the richest countries in the world. Just like they said they'd use oil to pay for their spending sprees. (just before the oil price plummeted like the proverbial stone),

I wish more had been made of this but the whole thing was done by then.

The less said about any possible Gold reserves in Scotland the better!

Scotland really is a beautiful part of the world and the last thing it needs is to be strip mined by the greedy bankers and politicians for their pockets!

The though of oil in Kent and Surrey sent oil companies into a slavering frenzy!

I quite fancy trying gold panning. I believe there are a few places around Scotland where people still do it.

As for the SNP and their oil - to be fair, Scotland wouldn't have been independent for another year yet, and the best cure for low prices is low prices  ;)

In any case I believe they said oil money was a bonus and they/we would still be a wealthy country without it.

They lied ;) If they had their way, Faslane would be closed, and I'm sure any new Royal Navy builds or refits would be moved to Cumbria or the South Coast. All the financial industry, would move, because they deal in UK Sterling, not Scottish Bawbee's. Even the Royal Bank of Scotland would have to move it's HQ to England, as EU rules state that Bank HQ's have to be in the country where most of its customers were. The Oil Industry is slowly winding down in the North Sea, and unless new fields are found then the industry will shrink, not grow.

Country Sports will be curtailed in Scotland, as the SNP do a Robert Mugabe on big landowners, and the countryside will be filled with wind turbines which will put of hill walkers and tourists.

The EU has already destroyed most of the Scottish fishing fleet and is on its way to destroying the farmers, and yet the SNP love the EU so much that they are willing to take it up the Juncker with a smile on their face

That leaves Scotland relying on the Whisky industry to keep the country afloat. Although most people think Whisky is Scotland favourite tipple, it is actually Buckfast, a tonic wine made by monks in Devon, so that won't work either.

But hey, at least they can shout freedom and paint their faces blue. Problem is, when it all goes tits up, and it will, they won't be able to blame the posh tory English, and then they will turn on each other through sectarian lines, (which is already the case), It will be a nightmare.

A Robert Mugabe?  I think you may be over reacting there HT.  Mugabe has murdered tens of thousands of people at least, as well as being a racist b-stard who took the farms off the white farmers then off the black farmers who didn't vote for him.

I'm sorry but it was Thatcher who destroyed the fishing fleet in the UK by letting the boat owners sell the fishing boats to the Spanish.

The SNP would make a mess of Scotland because they are left wing and right wing, if they ever did get independence the in fighting would be extremely bad.  At the moment they are a coalition for independence sturgen left wing Salmond right wing, there is no way they could work together post independence.

You are right about the Navy the ships/Subs would be moved to Cumbria or Portsmouth/Plymouth they even may move some Ship building back to Birkenhead. All that leaves Scotland with a manufacturing base that will run down south apart from heritage brands.  That leaves oil now the North sea cannot drill for oil at $75 a barrel never mind $50.

So with only Gas left and heritage brands Scotland would have a long way to go.  They do have one very big advantage though that no one talks about.  Their population dies young I think men die on average in Glasgow at 57,  No one will ever admit this but this is a god send to the Treasury compared to the South of England where people live until their 90's costing the Treasury billions every year.

Robert Mugabe    I think we can call house now after recent comparisons in the English media between the SNP and Hitler, Stalin, and Darth Vader (probably).

If the SNP got independence for Scotland then 'made a mess of it', then the Scottish people would be free to elect any other party they choose. Voting for independence isn't voting to be ruled by the SNP.

Aren't the majority of RN builds done in English ports now anyway and isn't the new Astute class submarine fleet going to be refitted in Davenport anyway.

Wouldn't an independent Scotland maintain a small fleet of frigates anyway?

With only 8% of the population of the UK Scotland wouldn't need much of a navy.

I also don't think Whisky is the only thing left to Scotland as a considerable amount of computing, chemical, energy industries are present and financial services wouldn't cease overnight.

Quite the reverse, UK shipbuilding (for the RN at least) is now based on the Clyde.

Except building nuclear subs, that's in Barrow.

Personally I think the SNP are lying about the proposed size and location of a Scottish fleet myself, I think all they would have is a small fleet of protection vessels and since the fisheries and oil is all on the East coast not the West they would not be based at Faslane like the SNP maintain.

I have no time for the SNP myself, they have enough powers already to be changing policy to what they promote in their manifesto but choose not to because they know they run the risk of being found out before they get their secession from the UK, instead they stick with what works and that's just saying how much better they could run things and trying to cause division and resentment.  I'm Scottish and the instant I saw them gaining momentum is when I decided to start hoarding English Banknotes and precious metals because under them I think bankruptcy is a certainty.
