2015 Plain Fields Britannia

I think I've found the reason, .................and the 10,000 mintage is the give away.

On the RM website they do a 2015 "brilliant uncirculated" Britannia in a box for the wonderfully cheap price of £57.50.

But if you look at the pic of the coin it shows a nice and shiny "plain fields"

Looks like MCM have had a load of these graded.

Makes me wonder though if these coins, (and they are still available at the RM), might be a hidden price sleeper that could appreciate in value as a collector, if they want a complete set would need one of these.

Mmmmmmmm. Do I buy or not, that is the question   ;)

and at a 10,000 mintage, they would be the lowest minted Brit to date, excluding proofs

Ps. 8,199 of the 10,000 left :)

Does anyone know why RM issued 10,000 Britannia 2015 with plain fields

I've not seen these before and just noticed them on mcm in graded form

Is it just a marketing ploy or was there a reason?

Very interesting, not heard about this before.

Pretty much nothing on the www about it either.

Do all of the 2015 and 2016 Britannia - Brilliant Uncirculated 2 pound silver coins, limited to 10,000 pieces, with the box and COAs come with the plain / smooth fields?   Are the plain field version offered by the Royal Mint in some other type of packaging?

I believe any special ones sold by the main RM web site are plain fields. To be honest I never noticed any 2015 plain fields.

Mine came in neat if a little boring blue cardboard boxes.

I picked one up and have kept it in its original presentation format for now. I think this may well be a sleeper. Only time will tell as with all these things. And they are no longer available at The Royal Mint. Here are completed sales of graded coins 55-130 quid depending on grade (plus shipping costs) .......http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_sacat=0&_nkw=2016%20plain%20fields%20silver%20britannia&LH_Complete=1&rt=nc&_trksid=p2045573.m1684

I'm not so sure. At 10k mintage, it's not going to be as rare as the proofs. I think it's a fad, demand will soon drop. If it were me, I'd make my profit now before prices drop.

I'll be hanging on to all my 2015 dates stuff for a very very VERY long time as it was the year my daughter was born. All the Royal stuff and all the 2015 4th and 5th portrait  sov proofs, 7 coin Libertad  set, 3 coin reverse bank Libertad set etc etc etc etc etc etc. Purchased from the heart not the head. :)
