Did I just hit the jackpot - COA 001 - Platinum Britannia 2020

Do you think COA number 001 adds much value?

73 members have voted

  1. 1. How much extra value does COA number 001 carry?

    • Who cares, it's just a COA number
      14
    • Might have a little affect on the price, but hard to say
      31
    • Yep - that is going to add a bunch to the value
      21
    • Ding Ding Ding - Jackpot has been hit - untold value added

Send it for grading and get a "first one minted" designation (even though thats a total lie, coa doesnt tie up with the order of mintage)

Well, to my utter surprise mid way through filming an unboxing video I happened to notice the COA number for my 1/4 oz Platinum Proof Britannia.....

001

What do you think this will do to the value - and what do you think is the best course of action!?!?

No, no jackpot. All first minted

coins go directly to the Her/His Majesty without a  COA. In the weird atmosphere of who cares about COA “firstness” I hope you get gobs of cash, but for those that know, it is meaningless

Nice purchase!

Not sure if it will affect the price, but should make it easier to sell as in general if there are two for sale somewhere at the same price and one as a COA with 001, it makes it more attractive as its a pretty cool COA number. (Just my opinion based on what I would do, I wouldn't pay more for a COA with 001, but if there was a choice I would prefer 001 to another number)

With items that physically have 001 stamped/engraved onto them, opposed to just COA's then I think it does directly affect the resale price. (in my opinion)

Yeah, some mug will over pay for a piece of paper....history is littered with such fools.

This is brilliant! Congrats!!

I’m not sure of the value and was convinced all 001’s went to the Queen!!! Are you the Queen??

The mega money will surely come for the person(s) who get the 007 CoAs on the James Bond releases!!!

Mega money....lol... a K or 2  at best if you are  lucky. You would get more “value” by taking your fanily, friends to watch a 007 film than by stressing about a coin making a K or three.....

I do believe that there are 2 factors at play here: COA nr 1 and the new design.

Between 5-7 % over the regular price.

Congrats BYB, great buy.

It's nice to have because some mugs will pay silly money for such things. It depends how popular these are and many people collect them. I would say not many so....

If it had been the gold Una that's a different matter!

Cool!

If it was the silver, you would have people paying silly money on the facebook groups! Thats whats happened previously for low COA Snowman, Gurffalo et al silver proofs!

Interesting comments coming through.

Its a tough one - I had originally thought I would put this up on eBay as a Buy it Now/Best offer (£1 sellers fee this weekend!)

But I am now thinking it would be better to get it out as an auction - more exposure and potential buyers?

However....

Auctions always run the risk of not fulfilling the right price - so perhaps a Buy it now is the best option.

Hmm, decisions decisions.

I put my auctions up for the price i want for it and then if i get a bid its great, if not it ends after 7 days and i can reevaluate and means its not left on the site for months on end with a buy it now.

This coin is already special, and a first with a mintage of only 150... the rarest proof Britannia yet, I think? And to have the COA number 1 is kinda doubly special. So yes, on eBay it should fetch an enhanced price, if you want to sell it.I personally would probably keep it for now, it's a nice thing to have.

Well, it sold on eBay for £725

I'm very happy with that, no regrets from my end.

🤦‍♂️ “those” people really are out there!!!

I'm just seeing this now, but I'll put my self out there with all the embarrassment that might come my way, and say that I would personally pay around £100 more for a COA #1 for a coin in this price range.  I just think it's a unique and cool thing to have.

I'm one of "those" people evidently 😀
