eBay Silver Prices

Hi all,

Just looking on eBay, and I note a number of BIN's for £17.25 - this includes the Canada maple and the birds of prey coins, free postage (second class signed for).

By my calculation, (forgetting the fact it's best offer too) they would get £14.92 after eBay & PayPal fees.

Second class signed for is £1.64 and we'll allow 10p for packing materials.

This leaves the vendor with £13.18 once everything is paid.

500 BoP coins are approximately £7042 delivered from STG, giving £14.08 per coin.

Given the fact they appear to lose £0.90 per coin and the time it would take to package & send & administrate, what am I missing?

I'm aware spot has risen a little of late, but I don't think the red tailed eagle, for example as a very recent coin, was available for £13.18 - even if it was there would still be zero profit.

What's the deal / what am I missing?

Seller is not a power seller so should be on regular 10% + 3.5% fees.

Good question, beats me.

Maybe just bought them really cheap off someone they know who needed the money. Maybe it's also possible to buy cheaper than STG, somwhere outside the EU? As DP says, also free ebay offer although the one I got said 10 free listings but was actually only 10 free sales when I checked. So, 10 bullion silver coins, hardly going to get rich on that.

They could have fallen off the back of silver coloured lorry,

They could have been bought with cloned or scammed credit cards,

They could have been bought from STG with dirty drug money and being made rinsed clean via resale through eBay

They could be selling a bargain items to get get many sales with the intention of scamming buyers further down the line with all their good sales & positive feedback

They may not indeed have any silver whatsoever and greedy punters grab their silver bargains to have no coins arrive

or

lastly they are feeling strangely philanthropic and giving karma back into to world with their bargain prices and as a result god wont judge them harshly in the after life

The seller called trworx has got other bullion coins going for £50 each!

If I get stung on the £17.25 red tailed hawk I'll let you know, bought one last night.

Are they selling multiples? Some people sell some cheap to get sales then whack the price up..So even if the price raised to say £35 each it will show for instance

"5 sold more then 10 available"

Yes, I think that's the same seller I was looking at.

I'm sure I have ordered from him before - was using nectar vouchers so looking for the cheapest decent 1oz coin to bring the average down.

I didn't realise it worked like that, so that may well be a possibility.

Maybe they haven't calculated the fees and just guessing.

I can't see it, but once again it is a possibility.

Has to be something fishy though, nobody is going to sell at a loss.

To be fair, even making £1 per coin is only £500 per monster box, and a whole load of administration to do.

By my calcs, they lose almost £1.

Assuming we are all looking at the same seller feedback shows they are selling 1oz bullion coins at under £17.00 per single coin, best offer with free P&P, and yet they have what look like regular 1oz bullion coins priced at £50 buy it now? Odd pricing to say the least.

If you look at the £50 they are all last coins. To keep the listing metrics you need to keep the lasting active otherwise you'll start again if you relist. That's why you see lots of auctions with stupidly high prices designed not to sell. Ebay has changed it recently so that any listing which is continuous does not end when quantity reaches zero. Buyers can't see zero quantity items but once it's restocked, all the previous stats are kept.

Thanks, didn't know that. Think I'll put an offer in for one of their coins, feedback looks ok on the bullion they have sold so far.

When ebay has a Buy It Now with Best Offer how many offers can you make?

If you are prepared to pay the BIN price but want to try and get a deal can you put in an offer and then if it's not automatically accepted put in a higher one (then so on until it's accepted or you reach the BIN)?

You get 3 offers, and you can BIN once your offers are used.

I'm not sure if you can up your offer until the seller either declines or counters your offer.

Ah ok. I'm pretty sure you can make an offer and then whilst it's pending you can BIN.

Yes, you can BIN whilst you have a pending offer.
