Advice for a new stacker

So I’ve only just got into silver and gold. I’ve been watching a lot of content and YouTube and have what I think is a good plan, but I’m guessing you guys could tear it apart which I’d appreciate

so far I have 17x 1oz silver coins (5 Britannia’s, 5 Maples and 7 landmarks of Britain) and a half sovereign

I have a budget of £300 a month. I intend to use this as long term savings. My plan is to buy the following on alternating months

month 1- A half sovereign and 7 around silver coins, probably Britannia’s or something generic

month 2- full sovereign

is this a reasonable way to be buying on this budget? Also can anyone give me advice on where to buy sovereigns or 1oz silvers coins. So far I’ve brought from eBay and the royal mint

thanks in advance

 Welcome to the forum.

You've come to the right place.

You can get some excellent trades on silver and gold here you just need to wait for the right deal to pop up and have the cash ready.

Sovereigns are a great buy as long as you're not paying too much of a premium....

Keep away from any silver in the UK that carries VAT which is most unless it's sold as used.

People tend to buy silver from Europe or from the forum

First off welcome to the forum. I think you have a sound strategy regarding sovereigns as your fractional gold as they have a low premium.

Personally, if I were in the UK I'd stick to silver Brittanias. So that both your gold and silver stack are capital gains tax exempt.

As you are just starting out I'd steer clear from higher premium silver like the Landmarks of Brittain. Wait a while before buying things like that, unless it's something you just want and don't care about any financial loss on it.

Buying silver from Europe tax free is advisable. You can store your purchases for up to six months and get it shipped in one go to save on shipping.

Buying sovereigns in the UK is easy and tax free. Check out some of the bigger dealers like Chards and Atkinsons.

For best prices check out the gold price checker made by one of the forum members.

If you spend some time reading up on the forum you'll find some great information and experience in buying by other members. There is a list of dealers and also a 'buy and sell' page where you can pick up some great deals.

Good luck with your stacking.

Buy here on the forum from trusted members with good/positive feedback and save money (no VAT, closer to spot prices) and also consider buying regular from europe where the VAT is very low if you intend to buy regular amounts. My choice in Europe is the European Mint. All details can be found on the forum.

Looks like you've started off with a sensible strategy. I was pretty much the same when my stacking adventure started in 2014, with a budget of £300 a month and splitting it roughly 66/33% between gold & silver.

As others have said, the UK & Europe trading subforum here is where many of us find the best deals, as well as the European dealers, although postage can be expensive for smaller individual purchases (£24.95 from goldsilver.be for example).

Good luck  and happy stacking :D

Welcome aboard.

Spread your investment into regular purchases, remember VAT is charged in silver but not gold.

Most importantly enjoy and learn - there are lots of great books and reference points online
