Whose and fan? Awesome YouTube channel, truth never told with a great personal story. I watch his videos all the time, his Ayn Rand philosophy is very appealing. Absolute silver bonkers. Be interested to hear your opinions on the guy I'm sure any silver bug has come across him many times.

Oh, he's not keen on Perth mint. "Overpriced furry animals with an elitist ruler" lol

That's all I need to know then about this supposed guru.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

Isn't he the guy that started the SBSS series with Mulligan Mint and Rob Gray?

Now releasing coins as Silver Shield I think.

I think the guy is a loose wingnut, but has designed some fabulous coins.

Yes he now mints his own coins, the silver shield series. If I knew how to do YouTube links with my ipad I'd post some of his superb videos.

I'm shocked at this post and it's likes. From silver bulls as well. Maybe your just unfamiliar with Chris Duane?

Without wishing to be a pedant, he mints rounds.

They have no legal tender.

Oh right, good point. How important is it for silver coins to be legal tender?

Well, strictly they can't be called coins if they are not legal tender.

They are rounds.

I like his design, but I think he is con. He started to make YouTube video advertising to stack silver. Then suddenly selling silver.

A cynical view but understandable. However in some cases these guys believe in silver so much they start their own silver business. Peter Sciff is the same for gold, he loves gold so much he brought a gold dealer.

All credit to him for doing something he's passionate in an yes I like some of the coins, I have a proof freedom girl and it's still one of my all time favourites.

As for Chris Duane himself, to me the guy's just a salesman, some of the things he's come out with are just ludicrous, unfortunately a lot of people getting into silver are quite naive and he uses that to his advantage, the guy obviously understands markets and when silver was near $50 he was telling people to put silver on their credit cards because silver was going to be extinct by 2020, a lot of people lost a lot of their savings because of people like him, to me it's unforgivable to get peoples trust then use their naivety against them just to line your own pockets, when silver went up 500% in 2 years he knew it was in a bubble along with mike maloney, robert kiyosaki and the rest of them, but still they continued to push it and rob so many of their hard earned savings.

That said I like some of his videos but when watching I'm under no illusion that his main agenda is to sell us his silver, whatever he says I take with a pinch of salt.

There are some great youtube channels with good information, someone like Josh Galt was screaming bubble and to sell when silver was nearing $50, he told everyone to start buying again at $22, he took a lot of flack at the time but looking back he wasn't far wrong.

Stretch i have nothing against if someone deal with gold or silver. But to produce own bullion is in my eyes bit too much. Don't forget he is an ex car dealer ;-).

When I first started collecting pm's I saw a lot of videos online and got swept up with the whole to da moon thing. Over time I have gathered a lot more information from different points of view, and now take anything anyone says with a massive pinch of salt. I don't trust Chris Duane to tell the truth in the same way I wouldn't trust anyone who has a vested interest in the product they are trying to flog.

Read all the viewpoints on PM's you can, both positive and negative.

Make your own informed choice.

Never spend more than you can afford to totally lose.

Never blindly follow the herd.

Stick with those and you don't need to set anyone's opinion on a pedestal.

Look at like this:

He has a you tube channel which he uses to whip up excitement in people interested or thinking about silver. He rubbishes Perth Mint, some of the worlds finest silver, and he produces some very eye catching designs which appeal to his target youtube audience. Read the history of SBSS and how that all came about and fell apart too! That will give you some more insight into the guy.

No surprise then that he slags Perth mint off.

Oh right, good point. How important is it for silver coins to be legal tender?

It's only important to people who think that silver coins are "better" than silver rounds. Even though most bullion coins are nothing more than rounds who are made by government mints rather than private mints. If anyone thinks any of these "legal tender" silver coins, really are legal tender, well try spending one.

It's nothing more than a government mint marketing tool to flog silver (or gold) coins at a profit. And for an extra bonus the government will allow you to sell their coins free of capital gains tax. Yet another marketing ploy, which the masses love.

To me, silver is silver, whether it's a silver spoon, a silver round, or a silver coin. I don't care.

And I actually agree with the "Overpriced furry animals" bit, Any coin with an animal on it will sell better than one with say a building on it or a famous persons head. It's why the "lunars" are so popular. I actually think the aussie mints will eventually produce too many coins and the bottom will fall out of their market. They will get greedy, they will mint too many coins in too many sizes, the collectors will give up and the premiums will drop.

No doubt the Perth Mint fans will be baying for my head for saying this, but it's just my observations.

Yes it is! :)

I have half a dozen of the early SBSS Muligan Mint rounds too! And a few newer ones, I like the look of them. I said in my earlier  post he created some great designs. Doesn't change my opinion of him though.

We weren't discussing which is better, we were discussing the difference.

It doesn't just matter to those who prefer one over the other, it's fact that it's a round until it has legal tender. So it's important for "everybody" to understand the difference.

Whether you can spend it or not is completely irrelevant to what the coin / round is called.

With regard to Perth Mint lunars, I'd proffer that any drop in premium will only affect future coins if mintages is increased. I can't think of one other series that has the popularity and premium for past issues worldwide. That may change for future issues, but I don't see past issue premiums dropping significantly.
