Theoretically VAT on secondhand silver should be zero but all goods arriving from outside the EU are subjected to VAT and that includes the Channel Islands even gifts.
The threshold for declared value is very low - would need to look it up but it's somewhere equivalent to less than one ounce of silver bullion.
Customs are getting quite hawkish these days as DVDs perfumes etc used to be cheap ( i.e. VAT free ) shipping from Jersey but no more.
Declaring as medallions of £2 value each might work but not guaranteed and if lost in transit ...

It's all in the wording 😁

What are the content(s) value(s) and do you know if the recipient(s) pays VAT ?
As a sender of course you don't pay VAT.

The sender pays vat on items over £30. That's why I do everything under that limit. Little risky but I have always said if it's lost I will will pay full refund. Use special delivery as I can track to the door 👍 moving back to Southampton in 6 weeks so not an issue I will have much longer 😁
