Cash Convertors Vs eBay

I cant recall it ever being brought up here before but if none of you are aware cash converters have their own kind of eBay clone on their web site

http://webshop.cashconverters.co.uk/

Whilst there is not a coin or bullion section if you use the "search" function for generic terms like "coin" "sovereign" "Krugerrand" etc.

it will return results for the whole cash converters chain of stores.

Their prices are typical retail, the price reflects the high street rent & rates they have to pay !!

Nothing springs out as super bargain but with the constant turnaround in stock and things changing week to week you may find some rarer years or design you may look out for.

You also have the make an offer option on a lot of items.

Have your right haggling hat on and you might be able to get it for prices we are use to paying from the likes of HGM and Atkinsons

Upon looking today i find, whilst it is still not a total bargain it is OK-ish value

http://webshop.cashconverters.co.uk/auction-item/801800/january-sale-was-39999-royal-mint-britannia-quarter-ounce-gold-proof-coin

  • 2010 proof 1/4 gold for £299.98

http://webshop.cashconverters.co.uk/auction-items?search=sovereign&categoryID=x&submit=

  • You get x52 results for searching "sovereign"

Maybe if anyone sees anything that is of interest, out of the ordinary, a bargain, a rare year we update & reply in this thread as we do like the "gold deals" "silver deals" & "eBay ending in next 24hrs" thread

Hope this helps folks

Do they just generally just give up and sell to HGM or someone eventually or

I've never bought from them as yet Kman.

I only stumbled on their site a week or so ago.

Looks like they offer full mail order service as you can pay P&P.

As i say it looks like 99% of stuff that is expensive, but you never know what might show up given the week to week way that pawn shops work and not knowing what is coming through the door

If there is say 10 to 20 members here who are having a peak once or twice a week and something 'different' comes up for the sake of posting a little link to it, that may be the missing coin one of us is looking for

Also, as Cash Convertors work on a franchise business model.

You are ultimately dealing with an 'individual' not a corporate mega giant.

A bit of haggling is possible I'm sure

I've been checking them out for the last 6 months or so, and have yet to spot anything of note. I wouldn't hold your breath trying to get a bargain from these guys.

I am not saying it is the cheapest, far far far from it. never bought from them and about 99% sure i never will BUT BUT BUT ...........................................

It is ANOTHER seller to consider & given the nature of pawnbroking the ODD, UNUSUAL or RARE item has long, long, long odds something nice juicy, fanciable, rare, undervalued may show on cash converters books nationwide it COULD be of the benefit of the collecting community here.

The people power of a forum & volumes of numbers just having a daft look on their lunch hour MAY stumble upon something really nice

Only trying to help :(

I call into these type of shops locally whenever time permits and speak to the staff if its quiet, never had much luck in picking scrap up as they usually have a system for moving it on, anything can turn up at anytime so its always worth a look. A couple of managers have told me they don't touch silver as there's not enough profit in it, I would have thought profit was profit but they must know the business better than me. Most of the staff I have spoken to although OK with sovs have a poor knowledge of common rounds and bullion in general, stacking's just not mainstream enough in the UK I suppose.
