mega bars why people dont buy

i was wondering why members dont buy mega bars ie 500g min or 1kg  i believe theres a school of thought behind the none sales and that is      that in a shtf scenario  they will be difficult to sell or offload

and im as guilty as the next person  5 oz here 10 oz there im up to around 62 oz  in maples ase, brits , sunshine mint, 5 oz bars etc etc   but truth be known if i had the same amount of money and bought larger bars i could be probably be sitting on 65 oz for the same money .i know theres collectors of date runs, etc and stackers favourites  ie kooks , pandas,  but  if oz are important to the stackers    why havent you bought

3 x 1 kg bars  rather than the coins which cost you more and weigh less (generic)  just a thought to stackers  i wonder why we see fancy designs  and not profit

and i know theres a school of thought that says  well its all i could afford 5 oz    but if you look at your purchases between the dates  of first purchase and second and third purchase   i bet silver was similar in price ,  therefore you could have bagged more ounces by saving your money until the 3rd date and buying larger

Generic bars will only ever be worth spot in most cases.

Bars can't be bought from the EU with reduced VAT, that's legal tender coins only.

In the case of spot rising sharply, they may be more difficult to sell.

They are less pleasing to the eye (for most people) than nicely designed coins.

Need any more reasons?

You are more likely to make profit on well chosen coins than generic bars, even if spot rises.

Probably why most don't buy large bars is because when the price shoots up, larger bars would be harder to sell to the everyday person.

I've got just one 1 kg bar as I bought it when I first started collecting but read on forums that smaller is better in a shtf scenario when selling on.

And for the record, 500g or 1kg bars are not mega bars to most people.

That's reserved for 100oz & 500oz bars [emoji1]

Id like to have a bar in my collection I just cant justify the extra price due to VAT, for us UK stackers there is little reason to own them at this time. The one single benefit I can see is they take up less space in a safe or safety deposit box.

just done a comparison on atkinsons 32 maples against 1 kg bar   bar was around £55 less

maybe the sunshine rounds would have been less but cant do mock order as theyre out of stock

I've always fancied a kilo bar just for the shear hell of it maybe one day. Some times you just got to buy something you like to keep the spark alive.Big bars are for the long haul, spot watching for years to off load.

I have 3x 1Kg bars and 2x 500g bars, I wouldn`t hesitate to buy more either if the price is right!

as danny said, they`re not what anyone in the "trade" calls a Mega bar, and far smaller than a Good Delivery bar ;)

Try the 32 maples from STG, how do the sums work then?

That's because Atkinsons charge VAT on all silver. Re price with maples from STG or any other German dealer.

People need to research the cheapest place to buy then......

I bought my above mentioned bars from the UK with the VAT, and I`d do it again too, as I`v said before on this forum, anything under 51p a gram is worth buying :D

edited to add: you`ll get 60p a gram on ebay all day long too, so selling`s not a problem (if you really had to).

sureley if i can flip anything for 10% plus thats ok my isa is 1.5% are we saying that in a shtf senario i couldnt sell a 1kg bar for more than atkinsons charged me

You needed to be more specific.

You should have targeted it at members who solely buy from within the UK.

Unfortunately, there won't be many on this forum and many of the ones who do soon change when they realise they can buy from Germany.

so if people run to silver in a shtf senario  why is a 1 oz panda more saleable than 32 oz

I can 100% guarantee it.

Where did that number come from?

it came from Me, silly :P

that`s what I think silver is worth, I won`t pay above that unless it`s something Really special, this is only for This particular time frame though.

That's not the question you asked.

During a SHTF scenario, silver will be practically worthless.

Afterwards could well be a different story....

I would love to own a 1kg or bigger.  My biggest is currently 26oz and I paid 20% over spot.  I did have the opportunity to buy a 100oz at 10% over spot back in March but I had just literally started stacking and at the time, that size was just too big for me.  Given the opportunity now, I'd jump right on it.
