Hi All

just a quick question, i have been offered some Silver  Britannia proof four coin sets 1997 all have original box and COA the coins are perfect but like alot of these sets they have some slight toning.

Does this decrease there value? would like to here your different opinions, my backgroud is pre-decimal coinage and older were nice toning, old cabinet toning, luster can add value to a coin,

I'll probably be at odds with most people here, but if they were cheap enough, and by cheap, I mean they would have to be less than £120 each,  (don't pay any more than that), and then I would stick them in a silver dip to get rid of the toning, and pat them dry very very carefully.

I know I'll get hung drawn and quartered for suggesting this, but that is what i would do.

These sets are on my future collecting radar, but it won't be till the summer before i start looking for these.

It generally does affect price.

But if they were a reasonable price, I'd take one off your hands.

I have this set, and some of the coins are toned a little. I don't see it affecting the price a great deal. And the thing in the world I would do toa silver proof coin is silver dip it! :o:rolleyes: They are beautiful as they are. Don't devalue them with nasty chemicals!!!!

I'd buy them if the price was fair!
