i seem to be slipping into a sort of strange buying search on e bay using the following search words

boxed  coa, low mintage,  commemorative , proof , mint , full set,

there are literally hundreds and thousands of items from  the royal mint  to commemorative boxed proofs, queen mother , pobjoy, charles and diana, fergie, belize, cook islands, john pinches, etc etc

can anyone reccomend a boxed item or items that are really nice and collectable?

i see that a lot bid on royal proof crowns as a set in wooden boxes  for commemorative dates

or descriptions like   the queens 025 sterling silver coat of arms set   etc etc

what is worth really bidding on  to keep as a solid investment  on a set of coins/proofs

The market is full of commemorative coins issued for just about every event there has been.

Many countries issue these and lots are minted at the Royal Mint so quality is generally high.

Proof sterling silver coins can be stunning and very well defined, often in boxes with COAs.

Even though you might be able to buy a few for close to the actual silver weight ( ASW ) they are only worth what someone is willing to pay.

If you like to own stunning coins then this does not matter if you can buy at a reasonable price.

However when ( if ) you wish to sell then you can get frustrated as non-one appears as excited as you when first purchased.

If you find proof fine silver ( 999 ) coins at good prices then buy these - Britannias, Perth Mint, Eagles, Libertads etc.

To retain value they must be perfect - no damage or stains.

Look out for sets - these can be nice to own but always take into account the premium you pay.

It is a personal choice between owning coins that might appreciate in value ( fine silver proofs ) or simply look good forever ( sterling commemoratives ).

Personally I steer well clear of any royal commemorative coins , even at spot price. Other things I would rather spend my money on .

There is just to many of them on the market issued by every country and mint on the planet for every royal , birthday and marriage.

They just seem tacky to me , just my opinion
