Question regarding silver proofs.

I'm interested in slowly but surely picking up silver proofs of bullion coins. one for each year they are made.

Now I know the Brits can be found in proof form, as are the ASE's and Libertads and the PM stuff. Does anyone know if the Phillies, Maples and Noahs can be found as proofs? And if so, has anyone seen them for sale anywhere?

To each his own HT, if you wish to also buy proofs great - but you would better choosing your stacking strategy & stick to that plan that best suits you and your need.

Which change of stacking strategy is this now? 7th or 8th in less than 6 months?

I don't know about Phillies and I'm sure Noahs ark don't come in proof versions but maples do.

If you click on the description they call it a reverse proof which has the maple leaf highlighted in a mirror like finish.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

I reckon I have changed my strategy about 5-6 times in the last 2 years, maybe more.

It's an ever evolving hobby.

It's not a series as such though, I think there have only been about 4/5 proof maples.

I'm glad a lot of mints don't do proof versions of their bullion coins, less to collect!!!

well it might become a series if they do a proof every year from now on :) cheaper as well as you don't have to back date like I do.

Agreed, backdating sucks (unless they are cheap [emoji1])

I've never changed my stacking strategy Paul. It's always to buy the cheapest bullion where I can, I might have tweaked what amounts I'm aiming for but that's all.

The collecting of proofs is just that, it's "collecting". Ok I may joke about collecting being the "dark side" but I've said many a time that I do have the collecting gene :) I have no intention of spending a fortune on proofs, after all, my latest ASE proof only cost me £17.11 delivered. I am happy to wait for bargains as they appear. If I never complete a date run, so be it. But if I can collect proofs for the same price some of you guys are buying Perth Mint stuff for, then who is to say who kis right and who is wrong.

I have a total of 4 proof silver coins. If I continue to pick them up at a rate of one every couple of months, it's going to make no difference to my stacking strategy. But it will give me the thrill of the chase. ........................and isn't that what "collecting" is all about.

OK HT, no worries

My honest comment was only my opinion in relation to how I have read & interpreted your posts on here since i joined

No offence meant in any way

I think anyone considering stacking PM's should always be reviewing their strategies, especially in the first few years. As you learn more about the subject you can alter your buying patterns as your knowledge improves.

I doubt there is anyone here who in their first year of stacking didn't make some huge mistakes in buying and paid well over the odds for something. The idea is to learn from your mistakes, and improve year on year.

This time last year, the only silver I had in my possession would have been a small sterling silver St Christopher on a flimsy silver chain, stuck in a plastic box, which itself was stuck in another plastic box. I now have nearly 300 oz's of the stuff. But I can guarantee that this year I will be paying around £2-£3 less per ounce than I paid last year on average. All thanks to finding out about suppliers like STG, Liberty Silver etc, instead of buying stuff from ebay or UK bullion companies.

The other issue is availability.

As a stacker, you generally have an inherent like / respect of silver.

So you are merrily on your proofs only (or 1oz only, or BU only) trail when you find a source of Australia 80% round fifties for spot, or very slightly below.

Do you pass, or buy for the silver content?

It's hard to stay on a road with no kerb & Tarmac verges.

.

The Noahs have been available in proof version, but from what I can tell they are only available in a box set ( 1/4+1/2+1 oz). That said, I was told that some of the larger sizes have been struck in proof quality for the Armenian National Bank, but I have never seen any listed for sale

The proofs were certainly around in 2011, 2012, and 2013, but not certain if these were struck for 2014. I have seen one of the sets, and one of the USPs is that each coin is engraved with the set number on the rim

Geiger are the sole distributors outside of Armenia for the proofs as far as I am aware. Current price is 200 euros for the set and are limited to 2000 for each year
