Gold coin value please.....

Finally, I purchased my first gold.

Granted they are only 1/20oz, but they are rather cute I think.

I wonder if somebody would be kind enough to give me an estimated value (for my spreadsheet) on the two coins I bough.

The first coin is the 2000 series 1 Perth Mint lunar dragon 1/20oz.

The second is the 1997 large date China panda.

I have just worked out that I actually paid under spot for these if my calculations are correct, but I'd like to know their rough value.

I have had a quick look online, and values seem to vary wildly by country.

If it is for your own records/spreadsheet put what you paid for them.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

MB, thanks for the input but I already log what I paid, but I also log estimated value.

This is to give the wife an idea of value if she needs to sell if I'm otherwise disposed, and as a total if I decide to insure my collection.

I would do the same as MB says. record what you paid.  It will be worth what its worth when you choose to move it on.

eBay is the best yardstick of 'actual' true current market value.

If it varies, work on how many have sold and then find the mean value for your records.

With respect guys, I'm asking for values of the coins I have bought.

I'm not asking whether I'm right or wrong to log an estimated value on my spreadsheet.

Thanks

The 2000 1/20 dragon are worth £65+ are becoming rare and for the panda £100+ this is my estimate some may agree and some not.

Thanks Arshi, appreciate your estimation. It's bang on what somebody else said too.

Cheers

Oh dear, I think I have the gold bug now.

Just realised I was looking on eBay at gold coins rather than silver. That's a first.

There is something about gold I have to admit, Maybe we see so much silver we get desensitized to it where as gold is a different story.

Currently bidding on Britannia's ^^

Posted

yes mate, two from same seller lol, you bidding too?

I'm watching those two and a 1990 finishing in 1 hour from another seller.

I haven't bid yet, I'll leave them. I'm more tempted by the STG free shipping now I have heard about that.

That's a great deal from STG, also very tempted. I'm sure I will prob get outbid on the Britannia's , My bids are fair but not over the top.

Should be buying sovereigns really but I like the boxes the 1/10 come in :)

Nope missed that one mate, didn't want to go to high on it as looked like it might have some dust/hairs on it, probably the capsule but didn't have time to ask the seller. These really need to be perfect IMO.

Edit* the one I wanted is now at £104, I wanted to pay £105 tops so  I'm going to bow out on these. STG take my money.

1/10 proofs?

I was also watching the 2007 one

Only really wanted to pay £100 for it

Went for about £110 with postage, I don't know why the extra few quid makes such a big difference mentally sometimes, I waste £10 all the time.

I'm actually think I might want to start picking up 1/4 proof Britannia's, the ones with the unique designs though not the standard

Atkinsons have a 1/4 2001 proof, I've been humming and ahhh'ing over it for a few days, I might give them a call tomorrow and see if they will knock a bit of the price off.. see what they say

Assuming no one buys it in the meantime because of this post pointing it out :P

It seems (as per the paperwork) that my series 1 lunar dragon 1/20oz is a proof.

Looking at the Perth Mint published mintages, there were no proofs issued this year.

What's the deal?

Is it not just a piece of paper with writing on? not a real certificate, since it's not from the perth mint.

Quite possibly Kman, but you would expect them to get it right as they are adding it as part of their collection.

This is the reason why I mentioned there were none released by the Perth Mint, it was meant a little "tongue-in-cheek".
