Quoting large parts of posts

This is especially useful for new members :)

Quoting large parts of another members posts is sometimes unnecessary and makes for unnecessary scrolling of respect information for members.

We advise you to only quote the relevant text, e.g. if you are answering a members question, you could just quote the question itself rather than the whole post from the member. To quote a specific part of the text, just highlight it and then a “quote” button will appear, allow you to easily quote specific parts of a text. You can also of course press the main quote button and then manually delete the unnecessary text however using the above method would be easier.

I will try to attach a screenshot later to show this method. Note that it may not work whilst browsing on a mobile such as an iPhone as the native iPhone “copy, paste” etc buttons may appear over the top of the quote button.

The other thing you can do to get the attention of a member is to use the mention button which looks like an @, or to type the @, and then start typing the members username where it will then come up with different members names and you can click the member that you wish to mention. Please note that mentioning a member also sends an email to the member, so we advise you to use this feature sparingly and only when needed in order to avoid bombarding the members mail box with emails.

In regards to getting my attention, please use the @ mention feature if needed as this will quickly make me aware of any topics where I am needed.

If the member you are trying to contact is the topic author you may find that you can simply reply to the topic as the member will most likely have online notifications switched on for their topics and will no doubt want to read all the replies to their topic.

So in conclusion, we appreciate if you use the quote feature wisely and do not quote whole massive posts by other members unless it is necessary, we strongly encourage the use of quoting but it is best used when only specific relevant parts of texts are quoted. This makes it a better viewing and reading pleasures for all.

Many thanks :)
