Stanley Gibbons of philately fame has launched an online auction site for stamps, cards and coins

Early days for the site, but it would appear that the base currency is going to be dollar with funds held/transferred via ESCROW. Also there appears to be a ceiling of £50 per coin. Not certain how the cost basis of the auction fees and remittance is to work.

Definitely one for the collectors, and it will be interesting to see if modern collectables can gain some traction/volume through the site.

I'd be interested in how this develops, they will have to be competitive commission wise though or most people  will use ebay for purchases.

Stanley gibbons may be a well known brand for stamps but is relatively unknown for coin sales.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

You can change the currency at the bottom of the page

I have used ebid in the past but found it poor for selling.

For example I listed/ relisted an item recently for sale for over 5 weeks and had in total 4 views and no bids.

Placed the same item on eBay and had 80 views with a sale within the 5 day listing at a good price.

Too many items are fixed price ( and too high ! ) with lots overseas so quite frustrating and time wasting.

The one advantage to sellers is their lower fees.

Once upon a time I made a best offer for a gold coin to an eBay seller who declined BUT emailed me his new listing on eBid with an offer to accept immediately.

Bit cheeky I know but it was a win / win situation.

Apparently if you have an item listed on eBay you can very easily copy to eBid.

I am sure no-one on this forum would ever consider doing this - would they ?

I had considered this Pete.

The plan was to list the majority of items on ebid, with an occasional 'advertising' piece on the bay as a way of directing potential buyers to ebid. Have yet to totally put this plan into action.

However, the fact remains that nobody get as much traffic as ebay, and ebid don't advertise. I have been waiting for them to become the next big thing for about 5 years.

Currently stacking 1/4 oz (22ct) and Sovs.
