All of us in the UK....

All of us in the UK have it so hard on this silver & gold stacking price wise compared to Australia & over in the U.S

The only thing we really have in the UK is finding a good special offer that's as close to spot as possible and paying 20% on top with postage aswell.

Prices are well too high over here! i know you can find the odd good deal on Atkinsons etc but Silver seems so much cheaper over in the U.S and much more to choose from.

i watch video's on youtube all the time & the U.S people are getting bar after bar and coin after coin because prices are so much better.

One company i see was offering a special price of 10oz bars for just $0.35 over spot price.

Ebay - i know you can find the odd good bargain but find most people seem to be just flipping on it asking for outrageous prices from spot, also loads of fakes...so dont really tend too use it.

I know you can buy with STG for good prices but very limited with hardly anything to choose from apart from the same coins over & over again. No bars etc

One website i have come across im thinking of using is http://www.muenzshop-berger.de/ , has anyone used them?

Not too much to choose from but much better prices than whats in the UK, also have bars & gold. the postage is $18

Apparently a few of their shipments went missing at their local depot about a week or so ago.

I had a shipment from them go missing as soon as it arrived in Central London more than 2 months ago

I subsequently made a second order but so far I haven't received anything. I think I will get my orders eventually

but it sure is taking a long time. EMB are a small family run business by the look of it and these missing shipments

are taking a toll on them. (I have advised them to use UPS instead of DHL).

What they claim to have in stock does not always tally with reality. So if you order a 2007 Panda say, they will likely have to go

and source that from somewhere. From order to delivery expect a wait of three weeks minimum.

Welcome to the pain and suffering

Search through previous discussions on this forum and you will see that a lot has been said about the topic and specifically relating to tax and custom duties

If matters could not get any worse, add to the mix that a large percentage of mints/secondary sellers based in America/Oz will not sell outside of the their country and those that do will charge the earth to ship this to you.

Increasingly US Ebay based sellers are being 'guided' to use the Global Shipping Program( GSP) and under the pretext that the seller is protected. In reality this is a money making exercise for Ebay. For example a Zombuck Feast for delivery to the US, and via ebay is going for around $22 and when sold via open auction. Via the GSP, delivery for a 1oz coins is around $14 to the UK, and then to give you a secondary sucker punch they place a prepayment charge of $10 for  import duties. Thus a final cost which is well in excess of 100% of what can be provided in the US.

A third layer of pain is then all non US buyers start chasing items that are being listed outside of the GSP and thus the price becomes inflated beyond all reason. Going back to the Zombuck Feast I was following an Ebay auction ( 390968517215) and where this went for $35 plus $10.00 shipping to the UK (see note below). At the same time US buyers were able to 'Buy Now' for as little as $25 and with free shipping

As I said, welcome to the pain and suffering!

Note: - Same seller had these listed at $29.99 as Buy Now; so it pays to check before you develop bidding fever!

sureley if its possible were looking for someone who fetches coins from the usa  or similar , somehow they didnt get clobbered with the vat when bringing it in to the country , and finally we can collect in person from their house

a big ask i think  ,  i dropped lucky some months ago when a kind fellow stacker let me have around 15 oz some for £12  some were £13  some were £14 per coin   spot was around £11.25    i think if you can find a fellow stacker who is getting out of silver for whatever reason  that would be the way to go

I'm sure lots of people do this, and then sell for around £20/oz on eBay.

If they sold it to you for close to what they bought it for in the US then they would basically be giving away money to you.

Not sure how many people you would find to do that for you.

If you arrive in the UK from a non EU country with a large number of items on which VAT is due, and you do not declare it at customs, then you are breaking the law by non-admission.

Some US sellers will, if you message them sell their item outside the ridiculous GSP scam,if not, its not worth your while bidding as a UK buyer.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

Agree.

I have got in a habit that when paying by PayPal to send a note thanking the seller for not using GSP and to thus continue to attract international buyers. Recently I have bought from a couple of sellers who informed me that they have ditched GSP as the amount of international bidders has dropped off considerably.

As you say why would you want to bid when you know that there is going to be obscene fees applied on top  of the final bid

As you say, I think more international vendors will cancel GSP when their sales drop off.

That's the hope anyway.

It's not immediately clear to everybody that it can be opted out of, and it's a convoluted route to do so.

I no longer worry about spot , compared to the price of coins  ..yes its fair to say that if its pure generic stuff then I will try and find the lowest price  and putting stg  to one side , I have found kevin to be an excellent price for coins and in wonderfull condition .. so thanks kevin

but I now look at something different , every month I seem to have around £350 spare in my current account,  sometimes I buy a bit of gold sometimes I buy silver ..on the silver side  so what if I am paying 25-30% more than spot

its spare cash  I didn't use it , I have separate cash for mortgage , shop rent,  I may get my classic car back , who knows , but as my ex wife said to me as I found out she had been cheating on me  and I spiralled into meltdown with a mortgage round my neck .she said  lifes too short craig       and she was damn right    spend it if its free money  £12 a coin £14 a coin  so what  we,ll never get them for 35 cents over spot in this country

Has Craig's account been hijacked. This can't be the same Craig who only a few months ago was having the heebie jeebies paying even a few pence over spot and would agonise for days wondering if he should buy or not depending on the spot price..[emoji12]

So he's no longer worried about spot, willing to get his classic car back and has spare cash which he can spend as he wishes.

That should mean everyone else is free to do the same with their own money. Spend what you want on whatever you want. "Life is too short!!"

I think Kevin's hacked into it, fair amount of name dropping there!

In all seriousness Craig, you're right life s too short, sometimes with all this chat about SHTF, conspiracies, spot prices movements and that, well I can't speak for others on here, but I have to remind myself to and enjoy the ride and not get too fixated on stuff I can't control so good luck to you mate.

Alright you barsteward, what have you done with Craig , we might be able to scrape up a couple of oz silver if the ransom is reasonable

If I were a moderator, my OCD would drive me to edit all your posts and correct the missing punctuation and capital letters; I'd never get any real moderating done at all.

I used to edit Craig's posts, but there is only so much time in the day

http://www.apmex.com/category/20000/silver

This is where I buy from when I buy online.  I pay $9.95 Shipping and insurance and no taxes, even on non-government silver.  I always order on Saturdays when the spot has closed so I don't get a surprise loss of OZs.  I order on Saturday and they pull the order on Monday like they did today and I will have my shiny on Wednesday.  But to keep my DCA down it is alway better for me to go to a local coin store and buy there.

Posted

If I was able to fly over there, I would load up on some shiny and bring it to you all.  I would buy it in USD, bring it to you, you pay me in Pounds and I go home and exchange back to USD.  I think I might a few cents a round or bar.

Apmex charge 50 usd plus for UK customers iirc.

As for the Ebay Global Shipping I have tried to find out how they justify charging 'taxes' for some gold coins which should not incur any afaik.

I have tried asking Ebay by email, their forums and online chat but they either ignore you or say thank you for your question and disconnect you.
