Swiss of America 5 ounce rounds, verifying

So I recently acquired four of the Swiss of America 5 ounce rounds.  A tube or roll of them, if you prefer.  I've been testing them for authenticity.

- none of them are magnetic

- they each have a diameter of about 38.25mm

- they are supposed to weight 155.5 grams, which is (31.1 grams x 5).  They're each very close, the lightest one being 154.7g and the heaviest being 157.2g.  They're all less than 1% off of the exact value.  They don't look very worn or tarnished, as they're all still pretty shiny and newish-looking.

Do those weight values seem reasonable?  They do to me, since (according to Apmex, at least)  it's less than what's considered to be normal wear and tear for circulated coins.  The example I refer to is that for a $10 face value of circulated US 90% silver, the average amount of silver is said to be about 7.15 ounces.  For the uncirculated versions of those same coins, it would be 7.23 ounces, which is between a 1% and 2% difference.

I hope that all made sense...

are they hand poured?  If not,  they should never be under weight (imo) and i've yet to see an overage like you've quoted above.  I weigh everything that enters my stack (approx 200 oz) without seeing those types of variances.

perhaps you can find a trusted dealer in your area and ask for help?  they might be able to test them with greater accuracy/certainty.   Hopefully everything works out for you sir.

Is this the sort of thing you are talking about? Arshimo2012 has still got this - he is holding it for me.

Wouldn't worry, sounds legit. SoA (Draper Mint) rounds are very cool and come in various designs, some are more sought ofter than others... e.g. this one mintage estimated less than 5'000 is quite nice imo!

Those are absolutely awesome! I always wanted to get a couple, but the premiums are so crazy on those.

I know it.  I've been keeping an eye on them for a long time on the online auctions.  And I finally found some for a more reasonable premium (only about 17%).  Now I can check that off my list of "would like to haves" for the stack.

Did you pick them up on ebay?

Yep I did. I've bought a lot of silver and gold on there.

Any idea what year these were minted?

During the 1970s and 80s, by the Draper Mint in Utah.  Beyond that, I don't know much else about them, other than they nice fat round chucks of silver, that fit perfectly into a normal coin tube.
