Royal mint Lunar 2015 Year of the Sheep 1/4 oz Gold Coin from the official royal mint website £375.88, about 9% premium, looks like a good deal for a coin that long been sold out

This was my last purchase from royal mint bullion.     Think it was the 5th one they sent before I had one that wasn’t gouged, bent or rubbed.     Isn’t that nice of a coin really

10% premium on 1/4 Oz commemorative stuff with low liquidity etc ; is it ok ?

I'm not familiar with 1/4oz format - what are the premiums usually for known coins ? Krugerrand maple etc ? I know it s much more than for the 1oz.

Nice one, @TheApe - just ordered one. It'll go great with my 1966 10-Shilling :)

Worked out at ~6.5% over spot, delivered to UK. Not bad for a low-mintage proof!

Pretty good for a tenth Maple, includes special delivery so if you knock the £6.70 off that costs the metal is £157.50.

Sovereign prices are pretty keen too.

Can't really do that, because if you buy more than one the original price keeps multiplying, not the original price minus £6.70. 16%+ premium, not unusual given the coin size.

That's true, I only tend to buy fractional that small one at a time as a novelty/top up so was thinking of it that way. You're quite right though of course if you're buying more than one! Tenth maples seem to be going for silly money on eBay, I thought £160 was okay but it's not amazing (just a little less s**t) 😁

Thanks, I wasn’t supposed to be buying anymore gold this month. 😆

But it was a good price, it worked out at £347.42 including delivery to UK for a quarter oz.

HB deal back up, no longer anything special price wise market competitive

If the H&B 2020 sovereign is £349, this is a better deal at approx (exchange rate dependent) £347.00 for 24ct quarter oz.

Agree but many people only collect sovs/brits and that is an ugly looking coin (unless irish).

Irish coin 7 grams
sovereign 8 grams

It may be the same price, but you loose a gram for the proof finish.

Though the fine weight of a Sovereign is 7.3g, so there really isn’t that much difference in gold content. I wouldn’t split hairs over .242 of a gram.

You don’t loose a gram, it’s barely 0.3 of a gram, one is 22ct, one is 24ct.

Irish coin 24ct: 7 grams gold

Sovereign 22ct: 7.3 grams gold

Theres not much in it gold for gold content but £22 price difference for 0.3 of a gram.

I very much prefer sovereigns, don’t get me wrong.

*CORRECTION*

Irish coin 24ct: 7.8 grams gold

Sovereign 22ct: 7.3 grams gold

Approx £22 less for 0.5g more gold.

There aren’t any cheaper 1/4 oz 24ct gold coins that I can find.
