when looking up the post in the 'silver deals' thread via the atkinsons web site i noticed this in their description

The Lunar Sheep coin is the second coin in the The Royal Mint's Shēngxiào Collection. Designed by artist Wuon-Gean Ho,

there will only 188,888 coins minted so order yours today to avoid disappointment.

I had presumed it was a maximum mintage up to that of what the lunar horse was 300,000

with britannias unlimited mintages from now on these are a far better buy IMO

I wonder how many of the uk horse actually have been sold must be short of the 300k for them to change it in the second year i wish they would actually look at things before they just make silly numbers of stuff

like the uk horse should of been around 100-150k to make sure they sold out without any problems them maby up mintage in a few years when people are more aware of the collection ect

prices are not to bad really inc vat even from the uk

15.90 is not shabby price at all per oz. keeping that four figure £ to fire the trigger on an order to spread shipping per oz is great . Don't but just order x1 oz........ Save save save for a four figure order at a smack down price :)

It is interesting that they have chosen this number.

8 is a very auspicious, or lucky number in Chinese culture. In Hong Kong people would pay hundreds of thousands of dollars for a number plate reading 888 for example. In Cantonese the number 8 is pronounced 'bat'.

People will chose to get married on the 8th of the month, start a new business venture on the 8/8/whatever year it is.

I wonder why the Royal Mint has decided to limit this years production to 188,888 coins and not last years. I wonder if they will do the same for all their Chinese lunar calendar coins from now on? If they do, will this devalue the original Horse coin in the long run?

I don't much like the RM sheep coin, but as I have a Horse already I have decided to purchase just the on to go with that. I will get on of each over the coming years. A nice slow, stress free collecting style! lol

on the low mintage of 188,888 how long do you think it will take to sell out in total

Not sure, don't think the horses have sold out yet in full, but they have a higher mintage.

Still probably take at least 6 months to sell the sheep out.

Stacker since 2013

how long was the wait keith ?

Just ordered them on the 25.09.14, so will have to wait two weeks or so as the Sheep are not in stock.

No rush really as long as they turn up. Unfortunately I will be back in the Middle East before they arrive.

how many dealers/companies will the 188,888 be distributed to  and do the mint keep some back or put the whole 188,888 for sale to other companies  , will they be only uk companies selling them or do some go abroad

If the mitange is this low it will be sold out quick

the £20 for £20 sells 100k pretty easy and they are limited to 250k

Anyone bought the 1oz silver proof version of this coin, I promised myself I was not going to start any more proof collections, but I quite like this coin lowish mintage of 9,888 as well.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.
