So does anyone like to get historic silver or gold coins? (think of pre 20th century)

If so, got any pics?

Id quite like the look of a Victoria shield sov or a gold Guinea, would be cool to have a bit of history.

Although I hate buying any gold too  much over spot, I am intending sometime next year to get a gold guinea. It will be my one coin that I will not sell during my retirement.

As for Gold Sovs, I intend to have loads. I already have an 1873 and a 1898. My cash for gold dealer is getting me some shield sovs in the few weeks. :)

I have lots of pre 1900 silver Morgan dollars, also have a few sovereigns pre 1900. I too will post some decent pics when I get home.

In fact I carry a 1878 (CC) Morgan dollar in my pocket at work. I love it.

38 pre 1900 Morgan dollars, and 7 pre 1900 Sovereigns.

I also have sixpences and 3 pence's but not sure how many as I don't log them any more.

I love old coins, the majority of what I got might even be more 'old' than usual bullion. I've just taken a few snaps of the more interesting stuff, left out not nice looking examples too.

Probably going to pick up a few more Morgans in a few weeks.

Thats what I like about them the though that they could have once been on saloon bar to buy fire water, or gambling table, or used to pay for certain special services!!!

The same for the gold sovereigns I wonder where they have been!!!

Indeed, sat on a table and watched some gunslinger blow some guy away who accused him of cheating and such, all speculation but it's still fun!

I'd think more of guineas than sovs when I think about circulating UK gold, those were floating around British forces fighting Napoleons troops!

I am 9 away from a full date run of Morgan dollars, but I am working on that as we speak with my American contact looking for me. I know some will be expensive but I am just going to go for a date run first then look at the specific mints!!

Highly recommend getting an authenticated slabbed 1893-S and 1885-CC when you get there, probably the most widely copied coins in the series. People would get a real 1893 and glue on a mintmark extremely carefully producing an example which looks almost perfect, unless you went even deeper and looked for a specific VAM die variety, but that's seriously deep stuff!

Better pay more knowing you've got a real one than gambling on eBay when you're talking thousands of pounds.

So for a collector is better if not cleaned?

Yes, very much so, some of my favourite coins are my favourites because they have the grime that comes from circulation, the grime fills the gaps and the contact buffs the surfaces creating a great effect.
