I've only bought off them once and everything was OK.

There is however one statement on there I'd agree with and that is in my experience they often advertise stuff they don't have, & that p--ses me off because you have to ring them at your expense to be told we don't have this or that.

The problem with common sense is, its not that common.

I will say what I think about it based on the little bits I know..

I know Lawrence is a bit of a domainer, owns quite a number, getting a DRS isn't really too scandalous, it happens.

From what I've seen of him in videos and what he has written online about other people scamming and stealing chards pictures, he seems a straight forward guy

I've not read anyone on here have any complaints about him, so I would put it down to a competitor not liking him and just trying to smear his name and business, unless anyone on here has bought from him and had issues?

this is their feedback of their 'suspended' eBay ID

you don't get suspended from eBay without good reason

the few times i have bought from them, items were in stock & everything went fine for me :)

hopefully these bad experiences were a thing of the past

there seems to be many, many independent negatives and neutrals in the past through eBay.

Seems like most problems were due to

1.Them doing a 99p listing, which I guess might of been something like "pay 99p to find the cheapest priced coins on the internet" and then they just emailed them a link to chards own site lol

2. Not accepting paypal

3. Selling items they didn't currently have in stock, which is a bit poor.

i would still buy from chards tbh though, but I would just email them first to make sure they have what I want in stock

I thought this quote from the creator of the website was quite amusing, considering how Ebay is percieved today.

Ebay is one of the world’s largest and most trusted online auction portals. What does it say about Lawrence Chard and his dodgy businesses that Ebay refuses to deal with him anymore?

I know a lot of people who wont deal with ebay because of their "practices" and lack of protection for sellers. Amazing what can change over 8 years.

i appreciate this all appears to have taken a long time ago now. But looking at the Chard eBay ID, it is not the case he has chose not to use eBay to trade but he was suspended from eBay.  Which is a big difference.

Suspension can happen for a lot of reasons, why they were specifically suspended is not clear.

As an top rated eBay power seller myself on eBay i know how seriously i take a single negative feedback.  I have only had one in 7+ years on there with over 5000+ positives.

Reading the Chard rants on his own web site about things like 'copyright thieves' 'scammers' etc. certainly doesn't give me a feeling of trusting the man or his business. With time things might have changed with them, but as i have not had one bad experience from his main UK rivals and competitors HGM,Atkinsons,BBP Baird & Co. etc.  I think i will stick with those that have served me well in the past.

If they do sell stuff they dont have in stock, and you had say £50k tied up 'in-limbo' awaiting product, i would certianly be less than happy.

to add to the above.  What also makes me a little suspicious of chards is the face the majority of their competitors are actually proud to display their independent feedback ratings through sites like trustpilot, ekomi, freeindex business review

surely if you were offering a perfect service and were proud in doing so you would shouting it from the rooftops.

without a way to gauge an independent opinion on a company, you have to just trust they will do what they say.

Best alternative gauge is eBay feedback.

So it's not looking good.

I see 147 negs/neutrals and feeback removal from 5701 giving 2.58%

But then you have the likes of Argos with 6135 negs/neutral from 290389 (12 months) giving 2.11%.

Some of Chards negs maybe justified such as item out of stock but others are not.

I don't have an problems buying from Chards but if I were to make an internet order, I would check stock availability before hand.

In the old days, it was quite easy to be suspended from Ebay.  These days they don't care as long as you turn them a profit.  Ebay will even foot the bill for a return if one of their high earners doesn't offer to reimburse you/provide prepay shipping for any free return which you are entitled to.  But that is all changing now with their new automated return policy.

Don't forget our friendly eBay turns a blind eye to numerous sellers offering fakes, despite multiple attempts to raise this issue with them by directly reporting repeat offenders and dodgy listings.
