A bit since i bought a sunshine mint 1 oz silver bar and a tube to hold 20 from Atkinsons. My intention was to fill the tube over time by buying an odd bar here and there when i wanted to make a purchase of PM but did not have a lot of cash. I just noticed they have now discontinued the bars and are doing a round instead. So i am stuck with one bar, i have to say it is a bit annoying, sure i will cope though.

thanks for the heads up!

since I only really buy Bars, I`v decided to try and get as many different types as possible in the 1 Oz size, I didn`t have a sunshine mint bar, but I do Now :)

yes, I paid ebay price of £21.50, but it`s pretty and it`s shiney and it`s made of Silver, what other excuse do I need?  :D

buying 1oz bars on ebay would worry me as the market has been flooded by Chinese copies of most of the popular types.

Definitely only buy from trusted sellers if buying 1oz bars on eBay, and only after you have already got some genuine ones from a reputable dealer so you know what to expect. Also have calipers, scale and magnet handy and check the weight and dimensions carefully.

Hmm... you Could be right, I bought from This guy: http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/damonz83/m.html?item=271587924622&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2562

as it Looked like he only had One, he`s since relisted another (although at a slightly different price), so now it`s making me think!

I have the magnets, and scales, and can do a sound test or the ice cube thing, I may ask my business partner if he can knock up a quick inductance/resonance tester on the scope for it.

failing that, perhaps one of you guys can give the exact measurements over here that i can check it against too?

I have some digital calipers comming soon for my jewelry making, so they should be able to check that out nicely.

he Does seem to have quite a variety of different silver though, don`t know that means anything though?

I`m sure i`ll be able to work out if it`s a fake using the above methods, long before feedback time :)

Hi Flutter,

http://www.perthbullion.com/shop/listings/1-oz-silver-bars/

This large Australian dealer has many 1oz silver bars to choose form.  If you ever need assistance in sourcing 1oz bars through this dealer just let me know.  I have helped out a number of the members of the forum to source various different items through this dealer as well as through other Australian dealers.  :)

No need to worry about potential fake bars off ebay.

I would be careful buying bars from eBay unless you trust the seller.

LOTS ...and... LOTS of very high quality fakes doing their rounds, some in sealed bags as well.

I was wondering about that, and thought maybe it would be an idea to have a topic dedicated to this sort of thing, whereby the weights and dimensions of many Known-Good coins and bars can be posted by those with the tools to measure them, and then be used by everyone to compare their purchases with.

I know I certainly found Smokestacks` post very useful!

just a thought :)
