I think the design is fine frankly, and although sheep/goat may be open to some interpretation, I think from what I have read it's rightfully sheep. Perth Mint has taken the "marketing" choice by choosing to use a goat.

What I dislike as HH says, is the absence of the "999 silver" on there, and I also notice the mint are stepping into the foul territory of producing a 1oz gold-plated proof version (for £110, naturally) as well. Not sure they have thought this all through.

there is no right or wrong,  in chinese can mean goat/sheep/ram depending on what other character it's paired with.

(think of it like the word 'shoes', then you get running shoes, walking shoes, formal shoes etc.)

I was told there exists an rm gold plated lunar horse coin already. I don't see how it can

be classified as gold plated 'proof', are you not limiting the proof quality by plating it?

it's missing the '1 oz fine silver 999' on the reverse?

HH

I think you'll find the original photos of the RM year of the horse coin also had the "1 oz fine silver 999" missing.

If you look at AgAuNews for when the horse came out, you'll see what I mean

Yea I don't think I will be buying one either. I've given up on collecting the RM lunar series, also because they go milky. I will stick with the Perth Mint.

I will get one of the 1-ouncer since I already have the lunar horse. I hope they will have better designs in their future coins.

Chris your spotted lunars, are they the proof or the bullion silver version?

The Lunar Horse looks pretty alright for the actual coin :)

I'm glad none of you lot are buying it. More for me to buy.  :D

You can all stick to your cuddly pandas and koalas, and I'll hoover up the "ugly stuff"

I actually think the PM goat is a bit of nonentity of a coin, but as I said, I don't mind buying "ugly" coins, so I'll buy those as well. Hey I might go the whole way and buy some Canadian Mint sheep/goat, bring on those milk spots, I've still got a bit of the old Goddards left.  ......................

It's just a standard UK lunar horse bullion coin. The horse is a nice design, but the sheep doesn't seem to be in the same style in my opinion. I wonder if the rest of the series will have synergy or a random mix of different styled designs.
