Midland Coin Fair

I'm at the midland coin fair this morning, be interesting to see if there is anything decent, I'll report back in a little while.

It's hammering it down so doubt there will be many people here, car park is almost empty.

Been there a few times Danny, each time a disappointment! Its pretty much filled with people with questionable personal hygiene and a slightly manic cast to their eyes.  I have bought one or two items, but usually just out of frustration of not being able to find anything i really want. Bullion selection is pretty much poor to non existent in my experience, and the horde of middle aged men with bum bags shoving each other out of the way to get to the "£1 lucky dip coin box" was a sight to see.

Might be ok if theres a particular gold coin or roman silver coin you are after, but as for the rest.........urg.

I wish you luck!

Well, it was mediocre at best, and rubbish for bullion.

Quite a few 999 1ozers, but around the £22-30 mark. No thanks.

All I got was three 1966 Australian round 50's at £10 which is under spot, even if you count the £2 entry fee.

That'll do me for today.

Yeah I thought it was pretty cheap.

£185 was the cheapest for the modern sovs, older ones £195 and I think proof were £210 ish.

Those prices are quite good. Shame it's a bit of a trek for me.

£185 is only £1.45 or 0.78% over spot. Should've emptied your bank account and filled your pockets. :)

No, I'm not into gold but thought others may find it useful to know how much they were.

Can't guarantee they will be the same price next time, but there were two stalls with sub-£190 sovs. They were advertised prices too, so there may have been some negotiating room.

  • 3 months later...

I am home then but was planning on going to Scotland to see my mum. But I could always go later in the week.

Do you think it is worth a visit. It would be a 300 mile round trip.

Depends what you are after K, I wouldn't want to be the one to recommend you drive 300 miles, and then you think it's rubbish!!!!

It is the larger quarterly one though, and there is always a fair amount of gold.

If gold dealers hear keith is coming it will likely be a dealer sell out !! :D

lol, even Keith couldn't clean these guys out.

I swear some of these vendors must have half a mil's worth on their stands sometimes.

Jeez !! That is a huge lot of value to keep in one place at one time and a huge risk in my eyes

if it was me, dealing with that kind it value.  I would be done it through a secure bank/post office like counter and several dirty great timed locked safes

You couldn't expect to sell that amount of inventory on one day why risk having it all on one time.

Guess it must be nice to see all that yellow metal in one place

who's going this Sunday,we can have a silver forum xmas party/drink and put names to faces at the same time?

I'll be going Sunday, but I'll be like a whirlwind.

Popping to an antiques fair in edgbaston that starts at 9am, then shooting to the coin fair. Then off to Luton to collect the wife & little one.
