Advice required : re famous auction site

I have sold a few recently and normally retain and add tracking number.

However I have just had a dispute raised against me from a coin I sold in June to East European country . ( they haven't received it after six weeks)

My naïveté at the time meant I didn't add tracking number to item on site so I had a record. I still have record of paying for postage label but I accept that it is not proof of postage .

To be fair to buyer I have to accept their word as I would hate to pay and not receive item myself.

Does anyone know if Royal Mail can/will retain records of items ( which I paid for online so they must have a record) that were posted or not even without tracking number ? Any help appreciated and I realise I was a cock for not retaining receipt until buyer confirmed receipt, all beware .

Even with proof of posting you'll lose.  For seller protection, in cases where items are not received you must have full tracking showing the item being delivered.

For seller protection against a standard unauthorised charge back you only require proof of posting.  As a precaution, where I think appropriate, I will use a tracked service to cover myself.
