2013 Year of the Snake Lunar 5oz and 10oz bullion coin premiums..

Recommended Posts

Have recently purchased a  2013 1 kg Silver Proof-like Year of the Snake Lunar coin (awaiting delivery from Talisman Coins in the US)  and am interested in adding to my collection with a 5oz proof as well as some 5 and 10 oz bullion coins.

Can anyone offer any insight as to why the  2013 silver bullion Lunar Year of the Snake 10oz coins have such a hefty premium (69%)  as compared to the 5oz (28%)  and even higher than the 5oz proof  {(57%) mintage of 5000}?  (At  least on APMEX this is the case.)...According to the Perth Mint website (updated  as of 4/29/14), the 10 oz sales have been

28,213  as compared to 20,552 for the 5oz , with both having unlimited mintage. Does anyone here know of a dealer in North American where the premium discrepancy is not as great ?

Cheers, Luker

Not sure I can help much as I don't know many US bullion dealers that sell previous year coins.

Provident metals is out of stock, and I don't think silvertowne stock that item.

The pricing might be just because it is currently harder for Apmex to source the 10oz than the 5oz. I have noticed on some older year coins Apmex sometime have higher prices than can be found elsewhere, the advantage of Apmex though is that it has a huge amount of stock and some items are hard to find elsewhere.

Not sure what the import taxes are like in the US if importing precious metals but you could buy from one of the European dealers found here:

When I bought my Snakes late 2012 and then June 2013 the price was regular bullion prices per ounce for all sizes so guess it is market driven now or opportunist pricing.
