Today I Received.....

Message added by ChrisSilver

The Today I received section is for private individuals to share items they have purchased for their collection / as part of their investment.

The Today I received section is not to be used for businesses to promote their business. Trade members and those operating as a business in the eyes of the forum are invited to enquire about a Dealer Sub Forum, where you may start your own Today _____ received topic to post your commercial purchases. E.g. The Today Chards Received..... topic.

Do you know, I've been wondering what happened to that one!

Congratulations on being the first to spot it.

Thanks, training your eyes to spot a rarity is something that all coin collectors learn from an early age and I guess it never leaves you. As a young lad I was always looking for pre 20's silver in change from the shop and with some success, even into the late 60's and early 70's.

I'd have loved to work in an arcade sorting coins, you must have found some gems in your time there.

My silver proof Mayflower medal and coin set and the silver reverse proof Mayflower medal arrived the other day from my brother in Florida, we decided to wait until the Christmas rush of post was over for them to send my US Mint order over.

Another friend in the US has been tracking a package of coins from him....here is where the package has been to already:

Accepted Hampton
Departed Hampton
Arrived Norfolk
Arrived Philadelphia
Arrived Jersey City
Arrived Norfolk (again, and why?)
Departed Norfolk
Arrived Philadelphia (again)
Departed Philadelphia
Arrived Jersey City (again!)
Arrived Philadelphia (third times the charm)
Departed Philadelphia
Arrived South Jersey (new!)
Arrived Jamaica NY
Departed Jamaica NY
Arrived Jamaica NY
Processed through Jamaica NY
Arrived New York
Departed New York
Departed London Heathrow

Most of that package is clad US coins, two Basketball 50 cent coins, and my 2020 bullion silver American Eagle.

I have had several packages arrive in my town in Florida and take three days to move from one side of town to me, it only took me three days to get a coin from New Zealand, some routes are a total joke.

Well...I just got this today as a gift from my father when I visited so it’s ‘today received’...I must admit the added cleaning question is a bit cheeky, I do apologize 🤭

Ignore me. I misunderstood your point. Of course it is the correct thread. Sorry!!!

The question is also valid and very good!

My response was just to say that I would not clean it. It’s lovely as it is!!!

Its not that its cheeky, of course clean it if you want, but before you do that, think about all of the times it has been handled which has contributed to its look today in the last 147years, it will take decades if not another 147years to get it back to how it is today, and even then it wouldn't be the same. Its a fingerprint of its own history. If you clean it it will be shiny but unrecognisable to anyone in your family who has ever handled it and admired it in the past. You can touch it knowing you are putting your fingerprints on top of your ancestors... im getting emotional for you 😄

Today I received an absolutely stunning toned India - British 1 Rupee 1900-B. This is now my second favourite coin after my beautifully toned 1887-S Morgan dollar. Wonderful!

They look even better when they are minty:

Has been in the family for as long as I remember. The coin has no real collectors value so I’m considering to give it a good clean because it’s more brown then silver color 😬 Should I? 😃

Thats time, id keep it the way it is, it can always be cleaned one day but never returned to this if cleaned now.

No, you are more likely to ruin it.

It is collectable, and has an attractive natural look.
