I bought a 1/2 gram recently too from Ash. It’s super tiny but it was the 2018 design which is my favourite

I’ve bought some very impressive looking Silver lately, including some beautiful Proof & Reverse Proof Libertads however, @kneehow2018 tempted me with this 5oz Sterling Silver Russian gem of a coin- it exudes quality in terms of design and workmanship & a free Beast too. Thank you.

Rich that round is a gem, Do you think it was laser engraved to get that contrast/finish ?

Is it possible that the reduced silver content means that this level of detail is more easily achieved? Forgive the daft question if it is a daft question!

It is a stunning coin!

I believe .925 silver has in the past been the go to metal to achieve high quality proof coins & as you’ve stated better details are achievable due to the nature Sterling being a mixed metal alloy with a harder surface.... But as time goes by these companies are creating more sophisticated Technology/Equipment & improving their methods & I’m sure they can achieve the same standard on 999 just like it’s counterpart .925.

I’ve seen a lot of high quality proof Russian coins over the years from .900 to 999, the majority of them are under 999 not sure why but this could just be their preference? As I’m sure they could easily achieve the same quality of finish with 999 with all the technology that’s available at present :)
