Today I received this neat little piece of history for my LMU collection.

The coin is an 1860 Napoleon III 10 Franc in well circulated condition. Not remarkable in any way in and of itself. But like an enormous amount of Napoleon III circulating coinage, this piece has been defaced. In this case the word SEDAN has been counterstamped - a satyrical reference to the French defeat (and Napoleon IIIs capture) at the battle of Sedan, which would ultimately lead to France's defeat in the Franco-Prussian war.

These satyrical coins are a genre all to themselves. Some of them went far beyond simple "vandalism", and become essentially works of art in their own right. Fascinating little piece of coin history!

I know it's an odd thing to say, given that the date is front and centre, but things like this satyrical 'grafitti' really do show the age of such coins. Lovely.

Looking for 1oz silver Somali Elephants (pre-2015) to complete date run. Must be good condition.

That is one fine collection :)

Thank you, i like them a lot. I know, it's just plastic. But gives them coins something special. I guess my ancestors 10000 years ago collected colored stones, or special bones.🤣

Excellent quality

As much, as i like them, the quality of the coins isn't better, than original packed. But is a very nice way to get rid of more FIAT, than needed. Some coins perform much better in this packaging, but in general you just pay a couple € more for the slab and the pleasure of collecting them.

Hello dear friends of precious metals, I had to have this beautiful series and am very happy to have it now complete. It is the Australian Shipwreck Series of the Royal Australian Mint in proof and antique finish. I like the unusual shape of the coins as a triangle. Please excuse the many pictures and hopefully I won't bore you with them. Best regards from Maxe.

Dreieckige Münzen sind sehr ungewöhnlich, aber großartige Designs, Maxe – Sie haben sicherlich ein großartiges Auge für das Sammeln anständiger Münzen.

Best regards Bully

I mean, the eclipse aside, this is the primary reason the scientists were baffled, rather than merely confused.  😆😆
