Hello, the reverse of my 2009 silver eagle has a highly reflective finish. This finish is displayed through the entire field and i am adamant its not been polished or altered. Can anyone propose a theory on why the reverse of this coin is particularly 'shiny'? (The phenomenon is difficult to capture with a phone bit it is quite significant in hand). Thank you59d61f3ce3532_IMAG0431_11.thumb.jpg.4f014864e9b7b2b8404abbffc6e53cfe.jpg59d61f405a2a6_IMAG0434_11.thumb.jpg.b8fcbb507d2228470d34fb7d311081c3.jpg59d61f438ff8c_IMAG0435_11.thumb.jpg.90861e608614f8b7c4a79a57de0d8aed.jpg

The fonts are different.

Compare the holes in the "A"s at the end of "America"

The stars on the reverse are almost touching on the left coin with much bigger gaps between them on the right coin.

Looks like signs of a previous acid test in the middle of the right hand coin too (in the shield).

Something to bear in mind is that the finish on silver eagles has varied over time - generally the newer issues are more matt in appearance than the older issues.

I'm not sure 2009 is long enough ago to explain it though.

They are somewhat different fonts yes. The edge milling seems to be accurate. As Shinus73 says silver eagles can vary somewhat in their style. The ping test also checks out. Dont have any scales on me atm.. very very good fake if it is so. I personally believe that its a genuine eagle with a peculiar finish.

Though I will note that the lettering on the 2009 seems weaker.

Could be a new die set being used - coins struck with a brand new die could have a proof like quality where as the 10,000th coin struck with the same die will look different or dull.

This is a 2009 ASE they have a mat finish.

Only way I've seen these with a shiny finish is if they have been handled well and are polished with fingers and thumbs

There were many proof-like Morgan dollars so maybe the same is true of certain year's ASEs

There were often just on one side as well as both.
