I added one to my collection not long ago. Love them. Very good looking coins! :)
Not sure if it is worth trying to collect a range of them though. I have a nice example, do I need all the years and sizes too? I am going to hold off from that for now!

Perhaps one a year going forward isn't to arduous though! lol ;)

I don't own one but they do look gorgeous, will hopefully buy one in the future.

SP, I bought 7 different rounds from 1oz.si for under £20 a coin delivered, a good way to get a range of rounds and keep the cost average down.

I like this coin. It's one to add to the list of future purchases IF I can get one for a reasonable price, haven't really seen any around any of the usual dealers in Europe, the design is the same each year right?

Yes Chris, same each year.

Gorgeous coin though.

Cool. So no real big rush. Do older year coins go for much of a premium? I know the earlier years of these have low mintages but what about ASE's for example, are older years worth slightly more? I don't understand why people decided to collect each year. I think it's a bit boring to look at.

Panda and kooks on the other hand. Those are exciting collections to look through. I am looking forward to seeing your full date run of kooks when it's put together Danny. You should prioritise those over a full date run of taku's

Yes, hugely lower mintage.

Not massive premiums on the early ones at the mo, but it's growing purely based on the fact there are only 10,000 of them.

I like to have date sets, whether they look the same or not.

I have both the 2012 & 2013 and think the turtle side is a real beauty (the textures & detail).  The flip side changed in 2013 though.  The Queen is gone and replaced by a proof style image of 2 island natives.  The background is a mirrorlike finish.

I heard the NZ mint actual produced for 2011 is 94,500 & 2012 is 91,018.

Interesting, I researched max mintages of 20k for 2011 and 350k for 2012.

Not sure on actual mintages, but they still don't stack up with your numbers.

What was your source buddy?

someone who inquired with the NZ mint.   Have you contacted the NZ mint via their website?  They should be able to provide the numbers.

Right, for completeness, I have received an email response from the NZ Mint, as follows: -

Current Mintage Figures are -

2010 - 10,000 Open Mintage

2011 - 94,500 Open Mintage

2012 - 91,018 Open Mintage

2013 - Approximately 130,000 minted to date. Set Mintage 250,000

Interesting stuff, I'll have to modify the mintages on my spreadsheet.

Thanks for the heads up GI.

'Open mintage' means they can mint old years any time they like?

Not good news I'm afraid.

The response was as follows:-

"Open Mintage means we did not set a limit and are able to re mint previous years.

This could allow us to go back and mint more queens head versions should we have a significant enough demand from the likes of large wholesaler in another market."

I'm a bit annoyed at this to be honest, but it seems it is becoming the norm!!!
