The mint told me directly, when I returned my coin twice for a replacement, that all returns are destroyed and you get a new coin.

This thread is more just a bit of fun. I'm not stacking for SHTF situation, I'm buying to hold as investment and a bit of a side hustle. I also like the history side.

In a real SHTF your Gold/Silver stack would not matter and I have never stacked for this reason it was for wealth preservation/diversification. I never would want an all out SHTF scenario (conflict with Russia/North Korea) / large meteorite hitting the earth (6.2 miles size killed the dinosaurs) / large volcanic eruptions impact ozone layer. I would choose life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness above any stack of Gold/Silver. In a real SHTF my priority would be family, health, wealth.
Well known stacker on TSF had six killos of Gold bars sold everything to buy his ideal home for his family and is extremely happy with his decision even though he could have obtained several hundred $ more as the price Gold ran up to $2k several months later.

I have several friends in the USA that once took all this "prepper" stuff seriously.
They built concrete bunkers under their houses and stocked them with tinned food, water etc etc but armed themselves with so many military weapons, ammunition etc.
This was to ensure survival and the ability to protect their supplies.
It really got out of hand.
Even in Switzerland they built nuclear bunkers with thick iron doors like you find on bank vaults.
Some are now used as laundry rooms or ski rooms theses days.
I've just returned from Switzerland so see these basement / cellar bunkers all the time.
When Covid hit the first time you couldn't find any toilet paper, eggs, rice, pasta or flour on the shelves here.
Maybe the public got confused between Coronavirus and Norovirus - hence the panic buying of toilet paper !
If the SHTF we are all truly f*cked so why worry ??

LukeStacker got a reaction from Agaumac in Why still buying Silver over Gold in the UK ?
I try to buy bulk silver lots at spot or lower, pick out what I want and then sell on at slight profit. This keeps my stack price very low and affordable. I am not really bothered about buying a specific coin, just what I think is good value for money and recognisable for potential resale.
I am now using the profits to grow my gold stack as its less space and not high premiums on the bullion.

SHTF means different things to different people.

Scenario (a) - inflation is out of control so liquidate some of your PM's to purchase essentials to survive.
Scenario (b) - we are all burnt to a crisp and everything has turned to dust and your PMs will have melted, not that you would ever know.
I think (b) is more likely than (a) because we are too fixated on counting the candles on Boris' birthday cake, did they or did they not culture, and setting new rules on gender neutrality.

The biggest single delivery I managed for the forum was about £50k and I estimate about £300,000 in total across 3 years.
It was amazing, don't get me wrong.
But it was literally weeks of work.
I was really happy to do it, it was very helpful to build my channel up and great content and a way for not only others but for me to save money on orders.
Forum members were very generous with tips and donations too - but it was very hard work!

Can't advise on whether to sell in or out of slab, maybe reach out to @DuncanWylieWilson @LukeStacker @MickD for advice ( they seem to sell/buy often.
As for opening...a dremel or multi tool will open that in no time with controlled destruction.

With a coin like this in this grade it is harder to price. It is still premium, but you'd need to find a buyer looking for this type and who would be forgiving of the fact it is a little damaged.
I would expect some buyers to pay in the region of £200 to £300, but there is not as well defined a market here as there is for graded, uncirculated examples which frequent auctions. Nobody would grade this piece and few would think about seeking out a reputable auction house to sell it through.
    There is still value here!
    Cheers!

Actually a brief search shows half cents may still be legal tender. Seems trade dollars were the only ones to beat the dust.
