    Hi everyone,
Got a interesting hypothetical question. If Im right a full gold Sovereign has a UK currency value of £1.  This the reason for being tax free when coming to being sold.
Now, if I was to pay one of my staff with a £10 note as part of their salary. That £10 would be subject to income tax, NI etc.  (not taking tax allowances into consideration).
Now instead, if I was to pay the same member of staff with 10 full sovereigns that would in theory be the same as the £10 note for tax purposes as sovereigns have a vaule of £1.
    What do you think?

    Update:
I received my replacement coin today. Let’s just say it won’t fetch a MS70 grade but it is a heck of a lot better than the previous monstrosity they sent me. All in all I’m pleased with the outcome.

Good afternoon all, firstly thank you for this forum, i've been enjoying my last few days reading through threads and learning from you all. Looking forward to learning more in time.
I'm excited as my first purchase came today, I started with a 1g bar purely for low entry point and I just couldn't wait to get something to start my journey. Plus I like them.
I just had to tell someone and I know that you guys will understand my excitement.
Looking to add each month, likely start with half sovereign's.

    Have a good day!

All legal tender means is that such payment can be used to settle debts. So technically if you were taken to court for a £10 debt you could offer to pay for it using ten sovereigns, and it would be legally acceptable. If they refuse, then I believe the debt would be discharged, as they've refused to take legal tender as settlement. Although I'm happy to be corrected on that.
As for payment in shops etc. they can choose what to take or refuse and legal tender doesn't come into it. So "we don't accept £50 notes" etc. is perfectly allowed.

Yes this book is definitely on my reading list, I think I will read it next after I finish reading up about the history of gold and money.
The more I learn the more prepared I am to make valued decisions about how best to proceed. If we can't learn from history we don't learn a thing. Needless to say I keep getting taken down various rabbit holes.

I also thought other members may have something similar or better others could make use of.

This will allow you to add your coins in, enter price paid and the premium you believe they should be worth (currently all set to 5%).  If you then update spot it will work out their current value and your profit/loss on current prices.  You can add in new rows and the calculations will pick them up, but always add to the middle of a section not the first or last row.  If you do not have any of a particular type you can just delete the rows from both the top and the body of the spreadsheet and it should keep on working.  Its not super complex and the formula's are pretty easy to follow if you wanted to add in any different types, but I am always happy to help out a fellow member if they are not very IT literate or cannot follow what I have done.  No guarantee I have got everything 100% but I am happy to update and re-attach to this thread should anyone find a bug, or if others with more IT skills than I can make improvements even better
    @Earthmetal as promised

Ranks1970 reacted to Chrissingy86 in Foreign gold coins vs Uk gold coins
Hello all, I’m in need of some advice before I make a couple of buys this afternoon. Is there any difference when it comes to re sell value in the UK between native gold coins and European coins such as Francs? Would I be offered a better price per gram for say a Sovereign than I would a foreign coin of similar content and gold purity? I’m strictly in it for the gold content in the long run and not the numismatic value even though some of the foreign coins are stunning, but I have only UK bullion. If anyone has had the experience or has an opinion that could help I’d be grateful to hear it.
    Many thanks.

The premium on them right now works out about the same as on a 1g holo bar, I know which I would rather own (this)
The appeal may drop but if you want to own one then you will not mind the cost of ownership, we all waste money on all sorts of rubbish in our life at least this will always have an intrinsic value even if the premium goes.  Worst case scenario you are out by £80ish, and I cant see them losing that much premium ever.  Given the subject matter I can even see them getting more sought after in a few years.

With the recent gold dip, i got a "best value" full sovereign, I just wanted to get one if possible before xmas as i still figure out a plan for what im actually chasing next year.

I would take pics but i dont feel its required, but its a 2022 QEII the design i quite like actually even though im not fussed overall, looks like its new, not a single mark on the thing or wear of any sort, i was expecting something used so i could put my grubby mitts on it and play heads or tails.
The weirdest thing though, I actually feel something that i have one now, It just feels good to own heh.

This is a display box that was 3D printed for the Tudor Beast Series, not as plush as a wooden one admittedly but takes up far less space, is very small and compact with the lid securely held by strong magnets.  Has 11 slots as we all know the money grubbing Royal Mint will do a completer coin for this series too.  Every slot comes with a capsule, a quality one not the cheap Chinese ones. Looking for £32 which will include signed for postage.
