  1. Couldn't pass over the pirates. 🏴‍☠️🦜
  2. This is a National Refining Company silver bar. This is clearly a proper US vintage piece. There is a very similar bar on ebay at the moment. I note that there is a full stop after the T and the O of troy ounces on the silver bar presented in this thread where as none with the ebay example here nor with the one Steffania posted. I note the one Steffania posted has full stops for the N . R. C. - these are clearly handmade unique pieces. https://www.ebay.com/itm/166391078710 Here's an image of a 25 oz and a 10 oz bar which were on Etsy - presumably for sale. Notice the 25 oz bar has another variation of full stops. The bar below was recently sold by auction - you can see it is different in having a logo - I suspect this is a more recent bar from the same refiner. They layout of marks - the marks - the use of the full stop and the basic name. The bar went for $686 which is a lowish price in my opinion but it goes to show that vintage bars can go for a low price if you don't find a couple of people whoses fancy it takes. https://mineralexchange.com/products/1-25oz-national-refining-corporation-nrc-vintage-silver-bar
  3. There are two questions on gold: 1 Does holding value in gold protect you against inflation? How much GBP or USD it takes to buy the gold is a side issue - does the yellow metal protect against inflation? https://www.bankofengland.co.uk/monetary-policy/inflation/inflation-calculator The price of gold in 1974 was £68.50 - It's £1582 now. £69 in 1974 according to the BoE is £625.11 today. Clearly gold has outperformed the inflation index according to the BoE. I would probably argue this is in part due to the heavy suppression of gold in the years prior to 1974 and that the true inflation rate was really a lot higher than the BoE admits. 2 Does gold outperform inflation? Well we have the 'official' answer to this question, which is yes. Personally i think that like almost everything coming out of government, the inflation rate is a lie. These numbers of manipulated to keep the rate of inflation low. If we compared gold to UK average house prices we get a different picture. https://www.nationwide.co.uk/house-price-index/ Property difference valuation, based on the UK average prices. From Q2, 1974 £69 To Q3, 2023 £1,790 Percentage change in price: 2494.71 % So according to average UK house prices, bricks and motar outpeformed but not hugely. Now you could have lived in that property, you could have rented that property - and so got added value. BUT there are costs, council tax, the rates, insurance, maintanence and so on. Invested in the general stock market I cannot find the data for the UK stock market so I used the Dow. The index was at 773 mid 1974 - it is now at 34827. This is a 4505 % increase. It does not take into account dividends you might have received and it does not take into account the 'management fees' for holding a general Dow fund and it assumes the managers were able to match the Dow. Those are some big factors to not take account of but investment is a general US fund certainly looks like it was the better bet. I think we are entering a golden phase for gold as the fiat / paper system continues to collapse. Stock indices may continue to climb as the destruction of fiat takes hold. We must remember stock indices are always adjusting - stocks fall out as a company fails and new ones appear - so they adjust for the changes in the economy.

  5. This thread is in the wrong section - i have asked admin to deal with this.
  6. i did message this seller asking him where he got his fakes from.
  7. i took a look at Atkinsons silver the other day, just to look. i saw they were stocking rounds from Mason Mint which i didn't know anything about before but i like the designs. As mentioned you need to have something you can get hold of at reasonable prices. i might mention coins that are nice and i can get in the EU but just aren't a thing in the UK. Anyway Mason Mint. Here is Mason Mint Mythical Cities Series: Asgard 1oz Silver Round. Here's another - but not a mythical cities series Both sides of the rounds have an interesting design - i could see these getting collectible. https://atkinsonsbullion.com/search?searchTerm=mason+mint&isselling=false
  8. You will go to coin hell now and for all eternity. There is no way back once you polish a coin.
  9. i have seen many SS fakes. i personally know one of the scoundrels who has sold them.

    Silver shield

There isn't any issue persay with Silver Shield. Chris Duane makes some new looking rounds. The rounds are on the pricey side but acceptable if you are in the US, however with shipping and customs charges it is very expensive to get them delivered into Europe. Maybe if a person/dealer bought rounds in large numbers and arranged shipping themselves, the price might come down and then they might be more reasonable. i even entertained the idea but this hasn't happened up to press. The problem, as can be seen from the post Chris Silver made, was that some people were selling fake stuff on the forum. Chris Silver felt that the risk to members and the reputation of the forum was too great to allow this continue - hence the ban. From time-to-time a Silver Shield round will appear but it is unusual. They are found on ebay but as we know there is a lot of dodgy stuff on that platform. The images the OP posted are current rounds from Silver Shield on Golden State Mint - https://www.goldenstatemint.com/Silver-shield-collection/ and if you are really keen you can join the paid for Silver Shield forum. i used to be a member but as i say the price of these rounds delivered into the UK was too pricey for me to tolerate even though some of the design were the biz.
  11. If you are really serious get a paid membership. There are 2 big advantages to that: You will see items on the selling section of the forum straightaway - click to get notifications for the UK thread - so you will get emails when something new appears. There is good value there. Buy from the longer term members who have a good trading record. Don't mess around on ebay - too many scammers. You will also be able to see more of the forum - like the non PM discussion threads. Some threads like the ones i am on are full of good information - some other threads i do not recommend but i am sure you will come of across it.
  12. The example given by the OP of the PAMP bar is a beautiful bar. i think it enhances the bar. The colours work together and are subtle. On the other hand the effect can be cartoonish and not to my taste. i see the PAMP bar is by DP Silver Art. https://www.facebook.com/dpsilverart On the homepage of this Facebook channel is this example. The antiqued bar is borderline to me. Features on the coin are brought out but but i prefer the plain bar. The colourised bar is one i would avoid. It is too much - the colours too strong - it looks cartoonish to me.
  13. i recall a thread from a few years ago where colourised Queens Beast coins were presented. I am not a big fan of colourised coins, indeed this is something i would point out to newbies to steer clear of colourised coins if you plan to resell b/c the general community is not keen on them. In the case of the Queens Beast coins, they did look quite stunning and gained approval of quite a number of members. i tried to dig out that thread but was unsuccessful in finding it - as i say it was quite a few years ago now. Having said i am not keen on colourised coins, i do have some colourised coins myself - i have a full set of the Perth Dragon coins i bought off the forum. i think if the right coin is colourised it can work as i think it does with the dragon coins. It is like antiqued coins, it can bring out the beauty and details which is lost on the basic silver coin.
  14. 20 rounds taken - these are a very good price.
  15. This is a barndoor obvious fake. Some other poor sucker is going to get robbed. There should be a way to report these to trading standards and have them destroyed or at least indelibly marked as fake.
  16. Looks like a button hole holder. The odd thing is the little tab is pointing the wrong way https://www.hersey.co.uk/products/silver-buttonhole-holder

    What is this ?

https://en.numista.com/catalogue/pieces947.html This is for the 1 penny coin. - Doesn't look like it is worth much - it is quite worn. A higher value on ebay.es https://www.ebay.es/itm/266366260414
  18. i have both commemorative versions and the original versions. i don't believe the commemorative versions will necessarily sell as bullion. Some are quite collectible - it is on a case by case basis. i see this coin is for sale on ebay at $100 whilst the plain coin is $40.
