For me it all started with this coin-
sometime around 2001 I found this in my change, years before the current 50p popular collecting, didnt realise that the designs of coins even changed at that time.
This chance find has lead me to be a collector, stacker, become interested in history, the precious metals market, markets in general, the refining and mining industry. To find out about other countries and encouraged me to travel. Introduced me to interesting people and ideas ( including on here). Helped me appreciate the value of things and become non- wasteful, and countless other benefits.

Some birds of paradise flew in, as an easy little collection, really like the detail my photos don’t ever do justice.
 
Oh and another year added to the Kook date run, said I was stopping 🙄must try(resist) harder 😂

Not something I would normally buy, but got a good price and it’s a great story. 48 tonnes of silver, one of the deepest, largest wreck recovery in history. About 20,000 mintage, wish it was a 1oz brit.

Back in 1989 I remember reading the Sunday Times newspaper and in the colourful magazine section was a Royal Mint advert for the special 500th Anniversary of the Sovereign set.  At the time there was no way I could afford even the half sovereign (I think the half sovereign’s initial cost was about £79).  The double sovereign’s issue price was about £299, and after over thirty years I have just bought an example of this beautiful coin.  I guess that is what you call the impact of marketing!

Chuffed to bits.  Cant stop looking at this beautiful coin and seeing how the light plays on the surface.  Just a lovely day to collect silver just for the hell of it.  Many thanks @PapaLazarou for such a totally perfect specimen.
