I broadly agree with Goldmember44's sentiments; but I think this particular event is unusual not only in that for the majority of us we never saw recovery from the  2008 recession,  but that never before has there been a period of sustained interest rates below 4%, or large scale negative interest rates! or global extreme GDP debt (except during sustained war). Devaluation of currency by Governments has historically resulted in economic collapse and shifts of power (Spain/Roman/British Empire/2nd Reich Germany/France & I guess now the US). This is compounded by a global slow down in manufacturing/commerce etc which seems to be independent of the finance markets; and global overexcited housing markets. Then there's the derivatives issue and the fact that Ag/AU seem to be held back artificially (pre Basle)
The uncertainty of Brexit has escalated the price of Gold to the highest recorded in national currency in the UK, (but also I believe Australia/Japan/Canada/India/NZ),  although not yet the states. I guess this suggests room for manoeuvre and a little more growth....

If you bought gold coins as a kind of insurance against governments screwing everything up, then you did well and you should continue to hold them. Selling them would be like selling your seat on the lifeboat of the Titanic. On the other hand, if you bought some gold assets with a view to making some profit, or at least preserving your worth, then you are in the tough position of having to judge whether a top has been reached. It is the same decision you face with any investment that goes up in value: do you let it run because it's doing well, or take profit? It is never bad to take some profit, but you may be able to do better if you can spot the signs of a bubble forming. When the proverbial shoe-shine boy tells you he is buying gold, or you see articles in non-financial magazines about gold, then it is time to get out.

I can understand buying them at  a good premium and their size is convenient

No worries, I just started buying these small bars, not used to what condition they should be in, trying to vary the stack. I should probably stick to Sovereigns. The bars are tempting though.

I wonder if that is because they were influenced by the Graeco-Indian culture which still has an influence in what is now  North West India?  Just a thought...
(This was the Kingdom post Alexander and would include the Bactrian influence). Perhaps someone may collect  Bactrian coins and be able to comment??)

Went from old gold to receiving what I believe is fake gold. Received a Saudi Arabia Gold Guinea, new fake variety, as it isn’t like the other genuine examples I have seen. This recent example explicitly states “24” “CT” on the obverse, and looks to be missing the first character in the script if reading from right to left on the reverse.
Also, the weight and size measurements are not accurate to the genuine 1950/1957 Saudi Gold guineas... 7.00 grams total weight, 21.88 mm diameter and  approx 1.23 mm thickness.
I have a voice mail in to Billion Exchanges as I had ordered this from their recent availabilities of Saudi Arabia Gold One Guinea AU/BU (Random,1950 or 1957).

Closer inspection given the wear of the detail and in consult with @augur (Thank you @augur for the review and advice!), these two are also copies of Saudi Gold Guineas...now I have a solid collection of Saudi Gold Guinea copies!😁

That’s really old, I have seen a 24ct copy but it was 7.33gm and 999 (24ct) Gold. It seems you were sold a coin that is low in gold weight on top of being a copy  that sucks.

Respectfully I think Silverfinger means Florins  (real money) were used as 10np's ...
That aside they look like they are in perfect nick unlike the last few I purchased which were starting to look  like ludo counters with barely detectable dates.... very envious....

there's no affect on the longer term shorting of
gold. similarly the longs that lost money on last
year's drop until august have no affect on the
    longer term longs.

It would be interesting to know how many short traders of Gold were caught out and how this will affect future short trading- Does any one have insight into this?
The $100/£100 rise must have surprised a few?

If a billionaire is buying 10% of their portfolio in gold they are a fool...they should spread out 10% amongst a few commodities, not just one, that's madness.
