Coincollector got a reaction from stefffana in Sovereign Problem
As it’s an Isle Of Mann I would say it’s definitely real. If an older coin then unlikely

Coincollector got a reaction from pricha in Sovereign Problem
If the coin measures and weighs correct then it’s solid gold and not plated. I have had 9ct and 18ct sovereign copies and none have measured correct. I’m surprised Atkinsons have not done this to easily rule out it being plated, 9ct or 18ct.

Coincollector reacted to Cornishfarmer in Sovereign Problem
Haven’t read all the thread but a few things,
If Atkinson’s can’t tell if it’s real the seller wouldn’t know it might not be.
If Atkinsons are offering £200 for it and it’s 97% gold they are trying to rip you off
If atkinsons can’t tell if it’s real they don’t really deserve business as they could buy and sell coins like this.

I have this one which thinking of grading or selling, but haven’t graded before. Has some edge knocks.

Coincollector got a reaction from dicker in Trade shows
Chichester antiques fair had about half a dozen coin dealers last time it was on. Sellers had a mixture of Sovereigns, Gold Coins, proof coins, pre 20, world coins and silver bullion bars and coins.
Mostly antiques and jewellery though as around 60 other traders.

Coincollector got a reaction from bilko in Shark tooth 9ct
That 9ct mark is English mainly used from the 1880’s to 1900.

Coincollector got a reaction from SilverJacks in Ugly and suspicious Scottsdale bar
I have had these same bars and was certain they were fake. As the edge looked like plating being peeled off and with sharp edges. After filling and testing they were all silver.
I believe yours also to be genuine. They are just off poor quality with different thickness of edges throughout.

Coincollector got a reaction from Frenchie in Dorset coin company
I went to DCC to sell some crowns and showed both father and son five crowns I wanted to sell four were Victorian and a 1934 wreath all in EF / UNC condition. They took a glance at the 1934 and said it’s fake but offered £250 for all.
I declined and sold the 1934 to another coin dealer who said he will get it graded and if it comes back as genuine he would pay 3k. The coin was genuine and 3k was paid up.
I won’t be offering any more coins to the DCC again.

Coincollector reacted to sovereignsteve in Today I Received.....
This is a bullion coin yet they send them out in a capsule? Depends on what their literature promises.
Not perfect but pretty acceptable for a bullion coin IMO.
I think you expect too much, to get 70's from random bullion coins. If I was the mint and you sent this back, I'd be pretty p'd off.
