elvee426 reacted to modofantasma in 1989 4 coin Proof Sovereign Set
    Hi Folks
1989 4 coin proof sovereign set.
5 sov, 2 sov, 1 sov and half sov, including box and coa.
    £Withdrawn
The 1989 sovs surely need no introduction on here. Researching online from what I can see at dealers and the likes available sets go from around £8k and up so I think I've priced fairly, if you know better please feel free to send me a PM if I'm too cheap or way off the mark.
If no interest I'll likely go to grading or they'll just sit in the vault for a while. Whilst they're lovely coins I feel a bit sad having them sat in my safe deposit box.
If the potential buyer wants to go down the route of grading I may be able to arrange to get the set to our own  @GoldDiggerDave
I don't intend to split the set but I am potentially open to swapping partially or in full for gold bullion sovs or 1 Oz Brits.
Here's a few photos to drool over

    Morning all,
Tough sale but equally amazing opportunity for someone to enjoy this set as much as I have. The full Queens Beast set + the Completer, housed in a beautiful @Alun box.
Revered as the best sets the Royal Mint has ever produced each coin is in great condition and come in their own capsule. Also, as the Completer came as a complete (pun intended) surprise to all,  boxes produced ok previously only have 10 slots. This is one of the only boxes that is able to house all 11 of these amazing designs.
As I’m sure most will know it would be extremely difficult to assemble this set today as the early coins are rarely available not to mention finding a box that can display them all.
    £19,800 including UK delivery
More pics available on request. I’m based in London, happy to hand deliver (location dependent)
    Thanks for looking 😊

So, didn't want to publicly start a thread until this situation was resolved one way or another but now that it has I can say my piece publicly.
I sent a package with approximately 6 Kilos of silver in it to The Edinburgh Assay Office in late November via Special Delivery.
It only arrived 13 days later....
It was sent to The Isle Of Man instead of Edinburgh!
Apparently, this is what I was actually told, someONE (not a system malfunction, but someONE) missread the label and instead of EH for Edinburgh they thought it was IM for Isle of Man.
    Crazy, how does this happen?
The reason I want to share this is so that if anyone else notices funny business with their special deliveries they can know what to do that might help resolve a situation for the better. I honestly believe that not for my actions of hounding the Royal Mail investigations team nothing would have been done.
Starting from the beginning, I was expecting the parcel to arrive on a NON strike day. Nothing happened with the tracking. So, I waited. I understand why the strikes are happening, I don't agree that they should be happening at all but alas thats not the topic of this conversation - I am prepared for some disruption to happen because of this. 2 days later, NOTHING had updated.
So, what you need to do in this situation is go on hold for up to an hour (obviously lots of people moaning at Royal Mail, wonder why!) and you must INSIST on escalating this to the investigations team. Use the word escalation and if they say no just keep asking until they say yes.
The reason for this is that the customer service agents on the regular number know about as much as you do. They will just tell you what the tracking says and when the cut off date for it being "officially lost".
The investigations team should call you back within 4 hours or the next day if you ring on an afternoon.
Later that day I got a call from the investigations team, they told me it had been sent to the wrong mail centre but not to worry, it was safe it was located and would be moved to the correct destination that day.
Relieved I got on with my day.
    Next day, NOTHING.
Rang up again to ESCALATE AGAIN!! You cannot call the escalations team directly (totally stupid) and so you have to wait another 4 hours for the call.
I was supposedly rung 2 minutes after escalating this call - but NOTHING came through on my phone. They decide one missed call is job done and don't try again all day.
Next day (about 1 week since posting now) I ring again to get this sorted. The customer service person says it is now approaching the day that would be the cut off for it being lost....
    UNACCEPTABLE.
    Escalate again.
Finally spoke with someone in a senior position within the escalations team who then told me it had gone to the Isle of Man and that a mistake had been made. Things would start moving again and to my surprise the tracking was updated to say received in Isle of Man.
Spoke at length about how frustrating this whole situation was and its impact on my customers and by blood pressure!
Low and behold, NOTHING happened again for 4 more days over a weekend. I finally got an answer that the package had been placed in a "bag" with the other packages that the sorting office "didn't know what to do with".
I firmly believe that without the intervention of this senior manager (the one good and shining light in this whole saga) This package would have been lost into the depths of Royal Mail and I would have had to make a claim.
So, lessons here. Don't take no for an answer. Push them to investigate and you get results.
    Regarding insurance
It is worth noting this package was insured with up to £2500 cover.
This cover is for replacement items only and would NOT cover retail value of items. I had close to £10,000 worth of retail value items in that package and consequently was quite concerned as you might expect!
Anyway, that was a long ranty post, anyone reading to this point....thanks, your obviously a BYB rambler and in the cool kids club.

Australian 1oz Gold Proof Kangaroo 25th Anniversary   Considering that the 1oz Perth Mint silver kangaroo is second in the Plug Ugly Bullion Stakes only to the grotesque Niue Athenian Owl, this gold proof version is a startlingly attractive addendum to my roo collection. With an actual confirmed mintage of a paltry 189 (from a maximum 600) it had rated as my second most desirable gold roo, behind only the elusive RAM 2018 25th Anniversary 1oz.   Huge thanks to the redoubtable@elvee426 for this deal and for his integrity in pointing out an apparent speck of finish loss. Happily it has transpired that this was no more than detritus, resolved with the use my inordinately expensive proprietary custom-built hi-tech numismatic apparatus, shown below.   The coin is accompanied by a revolting two-tone box, more appropriate to a Blackpool souvenir seashell. Forrible.

Thank you Lawrence for taking the time and effort to reply.  Yes from what you say it looks like some other dealers have bumped up their premiums, but Chards are still well priced.
I do not fully agree with the investment argument on Silver Brits due to VAT.  Prices in the secondary market (for example this forum) do take VAT into account - we do not see ex VAT prices in the sales section (unfortunately!).  And legal tender UK coins are free from CGT.  Naturally there are annual CGT thresholds so you'd need a lot of bullion and a lot of profits for that to make a difference.
Spot was down at £10.50 in Mar 2020 and has been as high as £28 in Mar 2011.  If (when?) we see those highs again that's not a bad return.

elvee426 got a reaction from Stuntman in Requesting advice on where best to sell gold proof coins
Hi Stuntman, yes unsurprisingly I have been contacted about the 2017s from this forum, and they are already sold.  I'm learning now that Royal Mint coins are the real collectables and other mints seem to be of very little interest for the most part.  However I do have a 2019 St Helena 5 Pound Una and the Lion as part of the 2019 EIC Queen Victoria sovereign set.  I'm currently considering getting that NGC graded, and perhaps other coins in that set (not sure if the other coins are desirable or not).

My experience in selling Gold/Silver in general need as many eyes balls as possible utilise the forums Facebook groups & eBay (seller reputation plays a role). As for selling proofs I have avoided buying proof Gold coins always sceptical recovering the premiums. Sometimes it has meant I missed out on some amazing premium growth for example on the Great Engravers Collection but overall severed me well to stick with bullion as close to spot as possible. I remember years ago I wanted to buy from US dealer some proof 1 oz Gold Buffalo coins sold same price as regular Buffalo's thinking some poor buyer lost the premiums in these coins sold by the mint it was a shame I was short of funds at the time these would have made an excellent addition to the stack..... Luckily never had to resort selling to a dealer this should be your last option.

The 2017 five coin set is highly desirable (the quintuple, especially) and it's probably quite a good time to be considering selling, with the current interest in the 2022 special reverse sovereigns and the spike in the spot gold price.
What else have you got?  I'm not in the market for your coins, but I'm definitely curious!

In my opinion there is no risk as a seller on here. The buyer will pay in cleared funds before you send.
I have never had a bad experience dealing on this forum and whilst you don’t get as much for the item, there are no fees.
    I won’t touch ebay as a seller.
