    I think I have an 001 or 002, can't remember. Doesn't matter for c**p to me though.

Here is an extremely rare pattern 1946E COPPER NICKEL shilling. Only one I have ever seen in any of the "silver" series.

I am still disappointed by them having the opportunity to produce a coin that could have surpassed the Edwardian florin for beauty but delivered a stinker (as far as the execution) which only seems to get better by squinting (or closing) one's eyes. I did go and get one of the plats on the aftermarket because I have slavishly gotten all the others (save the 2007 and '08). RM find another designer/ engraver - I have not had a problem with Jody Clark and agree with the above that the 2014 was a whole lot better...

Ah, I see not showing. Sorry about that, it is Franck (?) Medina who did a fantasy note series that has the young lady about 3 cm. in height that blows up to 30 cm with astounding beauty.

Anyway, for those that like the 2023 Britannia, can someone please go past the concept and give a positive critique of the executed renditions of Britannia and/or the hippocampi?

Good luck on uncovering mintage, and it appears that the mint got "happy" with these. IMHO, there were probably multiple strikings and releases of these. The RM are rather notorious for keeping "bullion" mintage figures to themselves, particularly the large silver and the gold and platinum issues. Uggh!

I did. not get any sort of notification and when I got on the RM site because of an after-the-fact email, the plat 1/4s were gone and so settle for now on the 1 and 5 oz silver (larger or gold IMHO a waste of money and even time). Only get these because I foolishly started the proof series in 2014...
As far as the design? Let's be realistic, the concept excellent - the precedent "influencers" such as shown by Brassic above very pleasant indeed.
HOWEVER, the execution was horrific. Starting with the visage/face and neck of Britannia: as others have said, EXTREMELY poor execution. Who the HEL- was responsible for design review of this? Where was Jody Clark? The hippocampi? YIKES! Also poorly rendered. I mean this is an embarrassment.
I for one (if anybody cares) will not accept the inclusion concept as an excuse for a completely UNINSPIRING Britannia that appears worn and tired with NO vibrancy or energy.
Although only a paper bank note design, here is an example of  the type of design possible if one chooses the "inclusive" concept:

I was nearly shocked by this design as IMHO the concept was excellent but the execution of it? Well, terrible. It can not have been Jody Clark (?). I know many of us feel a bit worn but isn't Britannia supposed to be inspiring? This version decidedly not.
And stupid me who began to slavishly buy RM proof Britannias since 2014! That first year excellent, and I even like the much-maligned 2017 with some of the others being up to the "meh" standard. Even more foolishly (maybe this is a bit cathartic) I started in with the more recent 1/4 oz plats but was decidedly swept away last year and had to go to the secondary market; this year, well, I don't know. Maybe if not marked up too badly.
See how addictive we (or at least me) are to this nonsense. Well, better than the crazy city view or regal history coins that bring me nearly to GI upset! Let's not even go there with the Paddington bears, etc.

Is this to be more "inclusive" and woke?

I really should keep up with this but was wondering if any had an inkling as to the release date of the 2023 proof Britannias? Rather too much schlock these days from the Royal Mint but have tried to keep up with these in the lesser denominations at least, even the platinums but not those huge goldies....

Well, they are a bit dated but the Franklin Mint struck to the 0,925 standard and included such coins as the Panama 20 Balboa which are still around in fairly large numbers....

The British Museum in the backroom has many GB coins from this era including samples of the different alloy coins; I recall about 20 years ago going through these. Now with XRF we have an ability to instantly analyze. I have some specimens that I would very much like to check for composition. As a sidetone some of the patterns appear to be struck on blanks that had a silver wash.
Also I do recall reading of the RM pickling blanks prior to striking to give a surface "micro layer" of higher percentage silver than the rest of the blank.

Haven't really kept up, which golds are supposedly on offer? And I was just snooping around and saw that the RM struck a THREE Kg silver coin for the 3 Graces! Haven't seen that one; honestly I am tired of them striking "boutique" issues for certain inside dealers and don't like them using the auctions either directly or indirectly to unload (nor Sovereign Rarities). Just offer what is on hand to us poor slobs but no insiders games!
