No that is harsh IMHO.
The reverse is gVF for the detail but there are dings/marks and the field is marked.
The obverse is a little worse obviously but still falls in the VF range on wear but the field is pretty bad.
On detail wear this coin is a AU55 IMO but previously said, NGC put a lot of emphasis on the field.

No just one overall grade……Jesus can you imagine the OCD getting a MS65/MS64 split grade.
I know especially at auction it’s normal to list a coin gEF/aUNC for example. one thing with this some solely use aEF (about) should be almost, where others use solely NEF (nearly) for describing approaching EF and etc.
Who’s “about” is more accurate than the others “nearly”? And NEF is way over used to describe a slightly better than VF coin.
Most dealers don’t use the British descriptive as listed it’s become an amalgamation of British, traditional US and the sheldon scale…….and you wonder why no one can agree on anything 🤣

Funnily enough I used to be the same. I have decided it's because it's difficult to find really good examples and when you do, you pay through the nose. Like the Jub heads, a really good example of the Veiled, is extremely attractive IMHO

The problem with the Jubilee head coins is that they seem to wear easily and the design definitely doesn't take it well.
On the other hand, a Jubilee in top condition is an absolute joy to behold; the detail can be astounding.
Jubs are also very popular because there are so many variations in just a few number of years.
The shield series obviously speaks for itself but the G&D young heads are quite boring in reality with just the odd length of tail variation to create interest.

You might say that 😆 but NGC really infuriate me with their inconsistant grading of shields.

May be the alloy content? In the late 1860s the RM concluded that the alloy used by the Sydney mint which had higher proportions of silver than London sovereigns not only exhibited a lighter colour, but was causing more wear than the standard alloy with copper!
However, it seemed that Leonard Charles Wyon, the engraver of J.E.Bs design had general concerns about this effigy in the first place, whatever they were. I must read the DISH publication!….

Regarding the suggestion that the RM will pay out the current market value at the time of loss. I have never seen this in the T&C but I can comment on my experience with claims over the last couple of years.
From sales on ebay I have had to claim roughly half a dozen times for coins going missing in the post. Yes I find that number unbelievable too but this is ebay remember😉
Each time all I did was screenshot the ebay sale invoice along with proof of postage. All cases were showing "not delivered" in RM tracking, although I suspect from the buyer's attitudes that most were actually delivered but not scanned as such.
They paid out instantly the full sales price plus the postage cost, no quibble.
I can't believe they are ever going to get into a situation where they have someone scouring the dealers, auction houses and ebay for current prices. Maybe for the higher value claims but not the vast majority.
