Early Christmas... when the 2021 libertad set arrived the same day as the 5-coin sov set. All going to PCGS:
About time to expand this registry as well, had a lot of fun (and challenges) working on this collection back then:
Feels good to be back - it is the 2022 Sov that invites me back from a break in collecting

Want to show this amazing rarity: the George IV 1829 half sovereign mule with 1823 reverse. Ex Terner collection, PCGS PR64CAM. Only 2 are known and the other one is impounded in the Royal Mint collection. The Royal Mint actually struck 4,205 half sovereigns during 1829, but all with 1828 dies.

The general quality of the Una is very bad. While 40% of those graded are 70, there are 63,64,66 and 68 graded and tons have white spotting and are not good enough to send for grading. My guess is 15-20% are possible 70 grade on this one. People buying ungraded without a full examination or 4k video are taking a big risk.
On top of that milk spots are crazy even if one obtains a 70. Once upon a time there is a frenzy with the 2014 Britannia silver proof. Nowadays many PF70s I came across have spotted, either from NGC or PCGS. Hope it fares better for this coin but I’m skeptical.

Fantastic addition!! That is a superb selection of a more valued historical coin! ...You didn’t happen to sell your Una and The Lion to APMEX, who in turn looks to have sold it for $40,000??
haha I just received the notification from APMEX and thought maybe there is a slim chance they will price it as the issue price? Open the link and immediately laughed🤑

Whoa! If a $20k windfall opens doors to this type of coin- just think what a Lottery win would buy.
Well done on this investment. What drew you to this particular coin? Obvious rarity/ beauty apart?
I’m amazed by the story of George III guineas. In 1761 three artists tried their best to make a nice portrait for the king who is not easily pleased. Richard Yeo’s version here (which is my favorite) is the most realistic one but not flattering to the king.

I saw one at Altas Numismatics but full brown already, lovely design. Amazing this coin still retains red brown given the century it went through.

It would be interesting to know if there were any quality issues with any of these coins ? Not sure if the RM are improving their quality control but the last two gold proof £5 i have had from them have been perfect, maybe i was just lucky ?
Heard a lot of quality issues causing delays.

I was told the mint is having a lot of trouble with the coin due to the depth of the cameo, hope those who got it recently grade well!
There is even rumor saying the mint may give up on the series.. hopefully not

This sale is now more than the 70 graded special version sold in US a week ago... shocking

2022 Sovereign design revealed?

Thanks and nope - for newly issued coins I don't see a strong reason to conserve them. If there are visible damage or hairline scratches no amount of conservation will help, it's better to exchange with RM. I actually do not know when this becomes popular but honestly most people shouldn't do that hoping it will improve the grade unless they know what they are doing. If you've kept a coin ungraded for a while and decide to grade years later, conservation makes sense if you see tiny red spots or minor toning.
