Was off to Costco yesterday to buy a sovereign until I received a message from a work colleague about buying one of his sovereigns. He knew I was on the lookout for one. Glad I got this instead.

I'd buy half sovereigns so if the gold price went pretty high there'd be more people who could afford halves than full sovereigns when it comes to selling.

Depends if there's any worth grading. Look for some clean ones that aren't worn. My dad done the same when he was a bus driver and I've got them all now, not as much as your grandad collected though.

Is that textured flip for marked coins? A clear flip would show up any marks immediately.

Pawn brokers are sharks anyway and they probably paid peanuts to the seller. No need to pay them anymore than they offer. Funny as I knocked them down £25 for a 2016 proof sovereign that was already a bargain to me 😄

There's a pawn broker around the corner from the bullion dealer, which doesn't know how to price coins. I've bought a couple of proof gold coins off them for bullion prices but the bullion sovereigns are way over what the price should be. I tried to tell them their prices are all over the place, after I bought the proofs of course 😁

Today my missus bought me this 1979 Isle of Man half sovereign from the local bullion dealer in the High Street. Whilst I was there I rummaged through his scrap coin bag and chose this Bosnia & Herzegovina sterling silver coin for scrap price. Sorry for the poor quality shots using camera phone.

A friend of mine in Croatia sent me these pictures of a gold panner's set up on the Varazdin River. The man who pans sent him the pictures and said he does it for 7 months of the year. I did hear about him a few years back but have never seen him along the river, think he's the only one who does it there. It looks like it's worthwhile for him.
