  1. The much anticipated (by me) Perth Mint 2024 Lunar Dragon 1 oz gold bullion coin - was offically released by the Perth Mint 8am this morning - last night by our clocks. Currently only available in the UK on pre-order at Chards. Thank you Lawrence 😊 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wOiwh7a6Vxs
  2. Maybe I shouldn't have returned it. There's no way it could ever be mistaken for a forgery, no self-respecting Chinese forger would make such a cr*p copy 😄
  3. I would return it as well. One reason why I steer clear of numismatics and stick with bullion. Too much hassle. Even then it's not easy to get good 'uns.
  4. Well done for calling Mr N and expressing your admiration of his design. I bet he really appreciated it 😊 I agree with everything else, apart from... ...I have 1oz gold Britannias from 1987, 2007, 2013, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022, and while they're all beautiful in their own way, I have to say that the new '21 and '22 coins are simply stunning in the hand. The best ever 😊
  5. Can I cheat a bit? I don't have a most beautiful round, but the most beautiful silver coin I have is the 1oz and 10oz 2009 Kookaburra: (my phone camera's cr*p so pic is courtesy of Atkinsonsbullion.com)
  6. This is pretty much my strategy too, especially with regard to silver purchases. It's wonderful giving someone who's never held PM's before a gift of a silver coin, and seeing their reaction as they behold it's beauty and weight in their hands. Treasure indeed!
  7. ELIZABETH II DEI GRATIA REGINA FIDEI DEFENSATRIX Translated from Latin: Elizabeth the Second, by the Grace of God, Queen, Defender of the Faith. https://onlinecoin.club/Info/Legends/2b561228-b8f9-11e5-bfa7-00163e09c6a7/
  8. This is coming, by design, and is the very best reason to buy and hold physical gold. An article from 2012: https://www.conspiracy-cafe.com/apps/blog/show/12947425-hyperbolic-debt-hyperbolic-gold-it-is-upon-us And another from 2007: http://www.321gold.com/editorials/casey/casey031207.html
  9. Central Banks can't even suggest they may raise interests rates; that alone would send stock markets, hooked on easy credit, into a tailspin. The debt cannotbe repaid: default or devaluation. They're going for devaluation.
  10. As soon as I get spare cash I'll be buying more metals, probably gold, not so much silver these days. My timing is cr*p, so I just by when I have spare funds. I first started buying at £300/oz, recently bought at £1295/oz. It's gut wrenching when you make a purchase then watch the price drop, but if you're comfortable with the long-term fundamentals driving the gold price then you just ride the dips out.
  11. If the total current market value of your coins is under $10K then I don't think you have to declare anything when passing through US customs. Just have receipts that prove you are the owner. Similar when flying in to the UK: under £10K so no need to declare anything, just receipts to hand in case you're asked. Edit: the silver eagles are currency and therefore fall under "cash declaration" rules, which start at 10K.
  12. I was lucky to get refunded by the RM in March 2016, around the height of the bad press, don't know if they're still offering buy-backs. I had around £1.5K's worth, so a not-inconsiderable sum
  13. I bought a few of the £50 face value silver coins from RM, thinking they were a bargain as I was exchanging £50 of legal tender paper currency for £50 of legal tender fine silver coinage, so a no-brainer! They got quite a bit of negative press (misleading the public etc) and in the end I sent them all back and they refunded me <embarrassed>lesson learned</embarrassed>
  14. As AZ&M said it's fairly easy to calculate the premiums, especially for 1 oz bullion: %Premium for a 1 ounce coin/bar is: ( (advertised price - spot price) * 100 ) / advertised price Premiums on the RM website are usually higher than main dealers... ...however it's still worth looking there before you buy; sometimes discontinued items still in stock are considerably cheaper. For example in June 2020 the 2017 Queens Beasts 1oz gold dragon was around £1700'ish on main dealer websites but £1500'ish on the RM site.
  15. Agreed, I'd also keep the maples and buy sovs in the future. Maples, especially fractional ones in great condition, will always command a premium.
  16. I've bought from Atkinsons, Bairds and Chards in the past. At the moment I find Atkinsons prices the most competitive, plus their free insured next day delivery doesn't hurt.
  17. I bought a fair quantity of silver and gold pre-Brexit from Coininvest and Silver-to-go, the same company based in Frankfurt. At that time no issues with import duty or VAT. They're really helpful, I think they have a lot of UK-based customers so may be worth your while having a conversation with them re. hassle-free ways of buying gold coins from the EU. The fact is there is no VAT payable on investment gold from the EU and no duty on legal tender coins, so there shouldn't be any issues having them posted to you. Having said that there are some nightmare stories on this forum. if flying wasn't such a pain these days you could have flown over and got them yourself.
