If you're prepared to compromise on visual style, then include a blank row between each section, and set up your SUM(...) formulae to include that blank line. Then you can safely insert new rows at the top/bottom of each group, not just in the middle, and the formulae will update correctly. But I don't know how to make your fancy thick/thin borders work if you do this - I never bother with borders because I have so many blank lines everywhere that separate things out 🙂
  2. This is back in stock, and still in a "flash sale", though slightly more expensive than last week: £407 (or £403 if buying 5 or more).
  3. I ordered a double memorial sovereign from them a month ago. They were quoting 3 to 5 days for delivery at the time. I chased them up after about 2 weeks and was told it was delayed due to security and compliance checks on my account. It was despatched two days ago and arrived yesterday, without them asking for any further details from me. It's only the second coin I've ever ordered from them, and I'm nowhere near the £5k per order/£10k per year limits that dealers often quote as being the thresholds for extra security checks.
  4. I always view the premium I pay, whether it's not very much for a sovereign, or £200 for a lynx, as being a sunk cost of the hobby. And then I've invested however much the spot price is. That works for me because I get enjoyment out of looking at the different designs of coins, and I'm happy to pay to be able to do that. I can easily spend hundreds, that I'll never be able to recoup, on equipment, tickets or other costs to let me get enjoyment from other hobbies, and I view this hobby as being no different in that regard. All that said ... £150 over spot is the largest premium that I've ever actually paid for one coin ... but that lynx does look nice!
  5. And if I can try to bring the thread back on-topic, what I would really like is the ability to buy the double memorial sovereign from somewhere other than Royal Mint, postage included or not 🙂
  6. I'm relatively new here, I have to say that I've found the discussion free postage quite interesting. It looks like this is a long-running thing with some back-story that I'm not aware of, so I hope I don't regret wading into this! I agree with a couple of recent comments - I really don't mind if postage is included or not, as long as it is made clear from the outset. It really is no effort at all to me to buy from whichever company is cheaper overall, regardless of whether I have to manually add a few quid of postage or not when doing the comparison. And that applies whether I'm buying cheap pet food or expensive coins. What does wind me up is when a company makes no mention of postage costs whatsoever, and then quietly adds an extra fiver on at the last stage of the checkout with no warning beforehand. But I don't see that any of the companies being discussed here do that.
  7. The last few posts motivated me to do something I've been meaning to do for years. It turns out that I'm £24.35 (and 23 cents) richer than I thought I was!
  8. Yes, the proof series has been released every 6 months since 2019, with a different animal each time: Series 1, five different animals, between 2019 and early 2021 Series 2, three animals so far, two more to come, started in late 2021 The radio interview is from early 2022, when the second coin in the series 2 proof was being released, and before the bullion series had started. So far there is only one bullion coin, the elephant series 1, released in late 2022. It's specifically the bullion series release schedule that we've been trying to understand.
  9. Thanks for taking the time to ask them. Using the same design for five years seems bizarre, especially when they already have other designs of the same animals! It's not likely that I'll buy exactly the same design again next year, so that will be their loss. You'd have thought that if they wanted to do 5 consecutive years of elephants, they would have at least done the elephant Series 2 in 2023, and Series 3 (assuming it will exist) in 2024, and so on, before going back to Series 1 for the lion in 2027. Do we think they're already planning ahead for a 25 year run of Series 2 in bullion, starting in 2047 and ending in 2072?! 🙂
  10. I now view the lack of shininess as a rare minting error. I'm charging double for this unique version 🙂
  11. Oh, yes, I see now. The press release says "a new animal every five years". CoinInvest says "Each year, a coin featuring one of the five animals will be released starting with the Elephant". Atkinsons says "This coin is the first in this series with a new one every five years" which to me is completely ambiguous as to whether it's a new animal or a new series every 5 years. I now wish I hadn't sounded so certain about that particular aspect in my summary in the earlier post 🙂
  12. Haha, sadly I'm too sensible! I didn't do a big lump sum at the start. I've bought in steadily over time, and my initial purchases (whilst I figured out how everything works) were smaller than the amount I'm prepared to spend at once now. So the majority of my gold has been bought at fairly high prices. I'm not complaining, but I certainly haven't made millions!
  13. When buying mine, I figured out the following regarding different series. I hope it clarifies some of the confusion: Between 2019 and 2021, they released Series 1 as silver, and gold proof, one animal every six months Since 2021, they've been releasing Series 2 as silver, and gold proof, one animal every six months. So far 3 animals have been released. Starting last year, they're releasing Series 1 as gold bullion, one animal every year [EDIT: That last sentence turned out to be wrong, see later in the thread, here]. So far just the elephant. Given the slower release rate, this is obviously going to keep falling further and further behind the silver/gold proof versions. That said, I found no indication if Series 2 will ever appear as bullion, or not. I also saw, unhelpfully, some sites describing a coin for sale as from "Series 1" but with a picture from Series 2, or vice versa. I haven't seen anything to say that there will be 5 different series, and I'm not sure where the 25 years mentioned in this thread came from?
  14. How do you know it's not meant to be shiny? Speaking as somebody who has only ever bought sovereigns and britannias, is there a way I could have realised this from the description or technical specs of the coins before I'd bought? Nobody seems to list "shininess" in the coin specs 🙂 I'm asking out of curiosity and to try and educate myself, not because I'm annoyed at the lack of shininess!
  15. I just bought myself one of these. It's the first time I've bought a non-UK coin, so comparing it to the Britannia: my first impression on opening the envelope was that it's nowhere near as shiny, and the design looks to be much flatter than the Britannia. So initially I was a bit disappointed. But it's so detailed! I can look at it for so much longer than the Britannia, and I keep picking out more detail every time. Just changing the angle slightly causes the light to pick up completely different parts of the design and makes the coin look totally different. Therefore it's grown on me very quickly, and now I'm glad I bought it, but it did need a bit of effort to get there. Up-thread (a couple of months ago) somebody asked for photos, so here is my best effort. I'm off to read the threads about taking better photos now!
  16. Hello everyone, I got into gold a few years ago when I realised that I could afford to diversify a few percent into gold and afford more than one sovereign, so initially I came at this purely from the investment angle. But I've always had a bit of a soft spot for collecting different designs of coins (I have a big pile of almost all the different designs of £2/£1/50p coins that I've picked up in loose change over many years), and initially I didn't fully appreciate just how many different designs of gold coins there are out there. Therefore my gold journey has been a constant battle between "that's such a nice coin, I really want it" and "no, don't do it, I can get an ordinary Britannia for £100 less". I joined the forum so I could post in this thread, so that tells you which side is winning at the moment!
